Extender which is alrerady connected to both router and Internet.

Why would the extender be connected to the Internet?

I didn’t manage to find a 1 TB external hard drive on amazon, 2 TB where out of stock so ended up buying a 3TB drive. Will I have to partition that to get the Foxsat to recognise it, or can I just format the whole 3TB as EXT3?

That will depend entirely on the specific drive you have purchased. As a general rule drives larger than 2TB require a GPT style partition table which the Humax doesn’t support but some external drives larger than 2TB use internal mapping to allow capacities higher then 2TB with a conventional MBR partition scheme. Summary, try formatting it as 3TB if that isn’t recognised by the Humax then 2TB should work. Let us know how it works out and the make and model of the drive.

I have a T1000 and I think the hard drive is on the way out, it sticks on nearly there and won’t boot up, tried maintenance reboot etc but it still won’t start. If I want to replace the hard drive can anyone give me any advice or what model and make of HDD to buy and can i transfer my recordings to an external pen drive??

I wouldn’t be confident that changing the hard drive will fix the problem. I would suggest connecting the drive to a PC and using a utility to look at the SMART data for the drive. Post the values of attributes such as:

    5 Reallocated sector count

    197 Current pending sector

    198 Offline uncorrectable

will give a reasonable insight into the health of the drive; post the raw values here if you want help in interpreting them.

This is probably because a retune can change the channel number for a given programme – like BBC 4 HD has changed for the Olympics – or even delete a channel altogether. It is probably easiest just to delete all the schedule and let the user re-schedule than try to work out what programme and/or channel has gone where.

Yes I agree it is easier for the Humax software BUT it isn’t very difficult to do it in the software. It may not always be perfect but I think most users would prefer to have 95+% of the schedule correctly restored rather than 100% wiped. One of the first features that was implemented in the custom firmware for HDR-FOX T2 was backup and restore of the schedule recordings and in my experience it does a good job. I really don’t think we should accept a very inconvenient feature to save Humax from doing a relatively small and well understood piece of software development.

If the relevant options are greyed out then the Custom Firmware is the only option.

Dosn’t loading version 1.01.09 un grey them?

I take it that question is aimed at the OP?

So what triggers the Humax box to retune?

A retune event in the broadcast data; nothing to with Humax.

Do we know what the retune was even for?

The BBC Olympics coverage. There will be another retune afterwards.

I reckon that nearly all my recordings are in HD, so will it be easier and possible to use only the HD method for allthe recordings?

If your existing recordings are in HD there is no method that will allow the encryption to be removed so that they can be played on a different box.

apologies but I do not understand. How would I reformat the hard drive?

Menu Button> Settings>Installation (default code is 0000) >Default Settings – tick the HDD format box and select Yes.

Do I assume you mean enter via the menu options, unfortunately these are mostly greyed out.

If the relevant options are greyed out then the Custom Firmware is the only option.

You then say the best way if to install the custom firmware. I assume this is instead of doing the above?

Yes it is an alternative and better way of attempting to fix the problem because it MAY preserve the existing recordings and will allow you to get an indication of the health of the hard drive to make an intelligent estimate of whether it needs replacing.

Where will I find that to download though please?

Try reading the relevant FAQ on this site Link to FAQ on fixing hard drive problems

…and then you say use the “fix-disk” utility. Again I assume that is within the menu options on the machine is it?… and again I assume this will not be greyed out now when I have completed the above?

No the Custom Firmware sits alongside the standard firmware and hence has to be accessed independently from a computer.

When you say press 0 and OK for 30 sec you do mean simultaneously or 0 then OK for 30 sec? I can’t think how this would work when there are no batteries in, but I guess it must.

My understanding is that the idea is simply to ensure that any residual charge in capacitors is exhausted so the remote will reset it self when the batteries are replaced; works for me.

My machine has also started doing this. on looking at the threads I downloaded the 1.01.09 vis a USB. The deleting problem was ended.

I then updated the software via the same route and the deleting problem has reappeared. Noiw stuck please?

Did you reformat the drive whilst 1.01.09 was installed? The best to attack this problem is to install the custom firmware and use the fix-disk utility.

Many thanks. I was afraid that that might be the answer, I will lose some cherished programmes.

If you really want to keep them and are prepared to open up the Humax then they can probably be recovered using humaxrw in recovery mode.

At first it would not record programmes although there was space on the disc. When I increased the space to above 25% it did record, but not everything. A week or so ago, it started recording over random pre-recorded programmes that I wanted to save. As of yesterday no pre-recorded programmes are shown on the menu. The available disc space is shown as 28%, so presumably the pre-recorded programmes are there somewhere.

You have described the classic symptoms of the file system gradually getting confused. The fix is to format the drive from the HDD Control menu item in the record menu.

Hi I have recently moved house, only a few miles from where I was before, I got a new digital aerial installed the guy said he could see the mast from the roof so it must be fairly close,

Is theaerial now pointing at a different transmitter to previously? If so have you retuned?
