Does this mean they are encrypted?
I would guess they are indeed encrypted. How did you transfer the files to the Linux computer?

I have now managed to format in EXT – my only choices are extfs2 -3 or extfs4. I have just tried extfs3 and the humax can read it but says the disc has no room?
What is the capacity of the USB drive you are using?

So, I discovered how to reformat into EXFAT using disc utility on my macbook. All went well until I put the USB into the Foxsat again. Now it reads ‘cannot read USB…format USB device to EXT3 or FAT16/32 on your pc’. The USB is/was FAT 32 but it has to be exfat to copy files exceeding 4G…am I missing something.
the Humax doesn’t support the EXFAT file system. So for a program over 4GB your only options are the Linux EXT2 or EXT3 file systems.

Windows 10
That should work nicely. On the computer do you have network sharing enabled? On the Humax do you have the Network Server enabled enabled? You might find this FAQ by Barry helpful https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/file-transfer

Should I be able to access my FVP-5000T from my PC over the home network. I assumed this would be the case as I can with my 15 years old TiVo and set programmes to record.
What operating system is the PC using?

To put it into perceptive I have 20/20 vision (recent eye test) so possibly I’m more critical.
Please could you just confirm what output resolution setting the FVP-4000T is using?

The box itself has not failed however the ability to read the HDD has ie the HDD controller. If I can read the HDD on the box via a caddy and USB then an HDMI splitter may well work.
I don’t think it will work but you might as well try.

I tried various tools that supposedly allow access to Linux from Windows but got nowhere (ext2fsd, ext2explore, linux_reader, linux_recovery).
You need something that will mount XFS file systems; as far as I know none of the tools you have mentioned will do this.

An alternative solution would be to record the HDMI output using an HDMI splitter such as this to defeat the encryption
How would that work when the box that made the recordings has failed?

Humaxrw gives “humax disk not found”
Humaxcheck gives “humax disk: no such file or directory”
Humaxrw and Humaxcheck are tools for dealing with the proprietary files system format used on the PVR-9200T, PVR-9150T and the PVR-9300T; they are of no relevance for any other models.
Could it be a MBR problem?
I doubt it.
Any suggestions what to try next?
I think the file system is probably Linux XFS so you could try with a Linux distribution bootable from a USB stick or CD. HD recordings will be encrypted and not usable on another box. The SD recordings may be unencrypted and recoverable. Let us know how you get on.

My machine has started emitting a soft high pitched beep during playback and at the same time the playback freezes and then might start again, and at worst I have to switch the machine off.
My guess would be that the hard drive is failing. Is it the original drive or a replacement?

Has anyone managed to do this?
You would need to crack the encryption to do what you want. There has been recent progress in understanding the encryption scheme used on the HDR-FOX T2 but as far as is known the later boxes use more secure encryption. Unless you are a software expert I think you should regard the recordings as lost.

Solved via another forum.
For the benefit of others who might come along in the future, please could you explain the solution?

It has been suggested that primary DNS should be 8.8.8.8 and not same as the gateway address is this something you may be familiar with?
regards
8.8.8.8 is Google DNS, setting the DNS address the same as the gateway address means that your router is providing DNS, either should work. I have known ISPs who have unreliable DNS and in that case using an alternative such as Google or my favourite OpenDNS might help. Neither will help with getting iPlayer to work outside the UK.

This morning I went to look at a recording made last night, and noticed that it was only 30 minutes (should be 60). Above it, there was a failed recording for the same series, but dated the 11th (it is now only the 5th July, so that was next weeks entry!)
It might help if you say exactly what recordings failed (program, channel, date); World Cup scheduling has been causing some problems. One possibility for the schedule to be wiped out is that the box has done an automatic retune.
