I have not looked at it much, but I wonder if it has any greater company interest than this one.
I would say there is absolutely no Humax involvement at hummy.tv.

Its a wierd thing to need when playing back files from a USB/external HD, I have never come across such a requirement before.
I think everyone will agree with you and that probably includes Humax because none of the boxes designed after the FOXSAT require sidecar files although there are some benefits to having them. It is now almost ten years since the FOXSAT HDR was launched so at that time it was ahead of the game; time moves on and now this feature looks a bit odd.

I kept reading everyone was having problems with the sound- was that the same with you?
We used to have occasional problems with the sound but otherwise works OK for my partners requirements; the sound problem was fixed by the latest software update.

The box needs to be a HDR-FOX-T2, the HD Fox-T2 lacks an internal hard disk.
I would have expected an HD to play recordings from an FVP via DLNA without a hard drive?
Pretty sure you need a usb Drive (and Hub) to even install the Custom Firmware on a HD-FOX-T2.
Why would you need the custom firmware to play recordings via DLNA?

Buy another cheapie Seagate drive and swap the actual disk to a working drive
I would say that unless you know exactly what you are doing then the chances of that working are very low.

Well, the WD Red 2TB has worked absolutely flawlessly. It records and plays back every day. It is a teeny bit noisy when it fires up, but it’s really not noticeable at all once the TV is on.
So, would I recommend the 2TB WD Red? Yes I would, but I have nothing else to gauge it against other than it has been flawless for me.
Thanks for the update. Experience from people who tried something different is always valuable. If you remember, another update in a year or so would be great.

I have a 200T and have had a series of problems with no sound. I have it connected to a Sony Bravia tv through an hdmi cable and often would get no sound through the Humax, whilst it was ok through the tv direct, though cabled through the Humax. I used to have to power it all down sometimes from the wall socket and then restart switching the tv on first, setting to hdmi then switching on the Humax. Then I got no sound on hd but ok on sd, now I get no sound on either.
Start by telling us what software version the HDR-2000T is running.

So in VLC how are you trying to play them? What error message do you receive?
In Finder I double click on the file with the .ts extension and it opens VLC with the the file shown in the playlist. I then click on the play button. Previously I thought I got an error message (but maybe that was with one of the other programs that I tried) now nothing happens. I’ve upgraded to VLC 3.0.4.
It isn’t clear to me whether that is trying to play the file via SAMBA or DLNA. Barry reported that SD recordings on Windows 10 were decrypted when copied via SAMBA on Windows 10 but so far I haven’t managed to replicate that finding.
The way I am playing files with VLC 3.0.4 on Windows 10 is as follows:
Open VLC
Select Local network> Universal Plug ‘n’ Play
This should show FVP-5000T DMS and the IP address in the right hand panel
Click on it and it should show ‘My Contents’
Click on ‘My Contents’ and I get two items: Internal HDD and Recordings.
Click on Recordings and you should see a list of programs.
Click on the desired program
No idea if these instructions will work on a Mac.

I’m fairly certain they are SD recordings.

I can see recordings on the machine in Finder on my MacBook but I haven’t been able to watch any over the network so far.
Are the recordings you are trying to play SD or HD recordings? I would expect it to be possible to play SD recordings (I can do this using VLC on a Windows 10 PC) but not sure about HD recordings.

OK thanks, I have the RM-L08 with an FVP-5000T so I think the translation of your helpful instructions would be:
Press the Blue “On Demand” Button
Left arrow to “Recordings”
Down arrow
Right arrow to “Continue watching”.
Down arrow and select recording.

Is there any way this can be done with the Humax FVP 5000T 1TB and if so can someone explain how to go about doing it, ie what type of leads would I need to make the connections and would I need any form of software on the PC in order to perform the task.
Yes there are lots of options for doing this; probably the easiest way is to connect the FVP-5000T to your router (either via WiFi or network) and copy recordings using the built in facilities of Windows. Alternatively you can plug your external hard drive into the USB port on the FVP-5000T and copy recordings to and from the external drive.

Try a variable attenuator, on the 5000T input. Signal level may simply be too high.
Why would only the low power MUXs be affected?
