ParticipantLater HDR-1800T models are reported to have a 2.5″ drive but the same case is used as the HDR-2000T which is 50mm high. The more recent FVP-4000T and the current FVP-5000T have cases that are 48mm high.

However I did get BBC News at Ten bang on, despite it running delayed.
Interesting; my recording of BBC News at Ten started at 10pm and hence started with the last 5 minutes of the Apprentice. Was your recording HD or SD? Mine was SD.

The manual tuning information on the response page is not relevant, it is for HD and as my experience showed, the method does not work.
If by “response page” you mean the manual tuning FAQ it certainly does work and I have used it myself many times. Did you actually follow the full instructions?
If not, maybe you could explain what manual tuning is for as it escapes me?
The idea is to first delete all the stored multiplexes and then tune to a consistent set of multiplexes from a single transmitter which will give the best signal quality and eliminate the accurate recording problems that occur when receiving from more than one transmitter.

Problem 1 is becoming more frequent. The other night playback froze (error message then black screen) twice for about 30 secs each time during a one hour program, then froze and locked out of all recordings permanently about 5 mins into the next program.
Yes that is a serious problem. My first guess would be that it is a failing hard drive but the only way to confirm that would be to connect the hard drive to a PC and have a look at the SMART data.

Manual retuning as per the manual would not change the channel from 34 to 51 that the HDR200T looked at despite seleceting it and saving (irrespective of doing/not doing a network search).
There is a manual tuning FAQ on this forum see http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/transmitters#post-2336

1. While watching a pre-recorded program a message appears along the lines of ‘Unable to view. Channel may be scrambled or not available’. Sometimes playback resumes after 15-30 seconds but sometimes the screen goes blank and the recording cannot be accessed at all, and neither can any of the others.
How often does this happen?
2. Recordings often show a ‘failed recording’ symbol and display a message giving a reason (various including lack of power, scrambled signal etc) when opening, however the recording has actually succeeded and can be accessed normally.
Again how often does this happen? I see this from time to time and often there is only a very brief disturbance in the playback.

I can try the selective manual tuning although I’m not sure how to do it.
The Digital UK reception predictor is at http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/coveragechecker/main/index/dummy/NA/yes There is a FAQ article on manual tuning on this Forum at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/manual-tuning-instructions

Recently, the picture/sound when watching live TV via the PVR or watching current (but not old) recordings has shown what I can best describe as periodic ‘stuttering’ – a brief break-up/pixellation of picture and a glitch in sound, before programme continues as usual.
What is the signal strength and quality as reported by the Humax on channels that give problems?

The SD xxxx.ts video files (mpeg 2 video compressed) aren’t encrypted only the HD ones (H264/AVC) so you can use them on your new box or replay them from a usb mass storage device.
I don’t think that is correct on an HDR-2000T. All the video files are encrypted.

recordings not playing just get the message
‘file format unsupported’
Try putting the box into standby and then turn it off at the mains for 10 seconds.

Any suggestions?
Have you tries a “Factory default” (under System settings)?

It will maybe say on the HDD what format it is?
Yes and it will be SATA.
What about using an RS232c cable, male to female, to transfer recordings to a laptop?
The RS232 port is only for applying software updates.
This would be the easiest option, if it would work.
It will not work.
Reading about the Humaxrw makes me think that this may be too complicated for me. I thought that it would be much simpler!
If you install the front end for humaxrw that Graham mentioned in post #4 then I would hope it would be straightforward. If Humax had activated the USB port that was part of the original specification then it would have been simpler.

The Hard Disk in a 9150T will be an IDE one.
My recollection is that the 9150T uses a SATA hard drive..

ParticipantPersonally I prefer to use the “Back” button (on the right of the X button) for removing the status bar.

first night with this box and as it is in the bedroom it needs to be silent but unfortunately it is not.
My FVP-5000T is noisier than previous boxes; when I investigated by gently lifting it off the surface it became significantly quieter. Putting felt disks under the feet reduced the noise to a level that was tolerable for me (but I am a bit deaf). I suspect other solutions that introduce more damping would further reduce the noise.
