I found that if the FVP reported the router as the DNS server (i.e. 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 depending on router model)- (check network connection function on the FVP) the problems disappeared after a reboot, only to return a few hours later. Now the FVP reports the DNS servers as those designated by the ISP (Plusnet in my case).
Thank you, that is a very interesting post. I have been wondering for a while why I don’t see the problems that are commonly reported here. I have a manually configured IP address on the FVP and the primary DNS is set to the OpenDNS server (208.67.222.222) and the secondary DNS to my ISPs DNS server, so I am bypassing the router for DNS purposes; I think if your theory is correct then using a fixed IP address and a stable DNS server might be an alternative to purchasing an admittedly nice but pricey Draytek router.

If the beeb has fixed AR how then have I ended up getting the last 15 mins of EastEnders before Panorama started on Monday night?
I think they may be making progress but they certainly haven’t fixed everything. I had two failed recordings last night and a several minutes late start to a program today.

For me, the situation has been much better for the last few days with no missed recordings or late starts. The only minor problem I am seeing is that they have split the weather forecast after the 1pm o’clock, 6pm o’clock and 10pm o’clock national news into a separate recording with a shared series ID so I end up with weather forecasts that I don’t want.
I really should know better than to post about success. Today on BBC1 they have merged the weather back into the national news/local news. What was a series recording for the weather on BBC1 has been converted into a series link for weather on BBC2 (which I don’t want). Local news at about 1:35pm was a bit late starting the recording.

Unfortunately My 1000 s Itb appears to be failing.Has become noisy and often fails to respond to Remote input.
Can you describe the noise that it is making please?

It drops the link to the various 3rd party players (I player, itv hub etc.) very regularly meaning lots of advanced features don’t work and you’re continually having to reboot it to reconnect.
The EPG regularly doesn’t show any data either – even when the players are working and pulling in data.
What I don’t understand is why I don’t suffer from these issues. When the box works properly for some people and not others it is challenging for developers to work out where the issue is.
Pressing ‘on demand’ shows nothing as being available (though – top tip – you can sometimes give it a bit of a kick by pressing down button then choosing a category like ‘sport’ or ‘comedy’ and it’ll pull through the data then.
I do see that behaviour but as you note selecting a genre, waiting for it to populate and then going back to “All” always results in it populating. I agree it is a bug but with a workaround.
It often doesn’t record programs for no apparent reason and crashes pretty often.
I have had a small number of failed recordings recently on BBC channels but the BBC have had problems with both Series link and accurate recording meta data; I think the situation with the BBC is now improving. That aside the recording performance has been faultless.
The H3 media streamer (cappucino?) software looks like it’s been nicked from freebie internet software (remember public domain stuff and you get the picture), is mega user-unfriendly and often simply doesn’t work or crashes the apps.
I have never owned an H3 but from the endless problem reports here, I would say it is conceptually a good idea but very poorly implemented.
Nothing wrong with Open Source public domain software. It is at the core of most of the electronic products we use today.

How long do your batteries last in your 5000t remote control? Mine only seem to be lasting about 2 months. What type of batteries are you using?
The Duracell Plus Power batteries in my FVP remote (RM-L08) have been in for at least 6 months and currently the measured voltage is 1.46V so I would expect them to last for a fair while yet. What batteries are you using?

it’s a PVR 9150T
So your options are to format the drive and lose the existing recordings or to open the Humax and connect the hard drive to a PC and use humaxrw in recovery mode to extract the recordings.

The hard drive space is still being taken up, but ALL the programmes in the list have disappeared.
Is there any way I can rescue this list, or will I have to format the drive and free the hard disk space accepting it is lost ?
As Graham says start by telling us which box you have. Judging by the symptoms I would guess that it is either a 9200T, 9150T or 9300T. If it is one of these then it is possible to retrieve the recordings providing you are determined enough. There is a thread about a similar problem at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/recording-list-blank-help

I now suspect that the ‘fault’ lies with the actual transmissions as signal strength/quality are near 100% for all channels;)and I regularly update the programme listings.
If you talking about solely BBC programs, then a very brief search of this and other forums will show lots of similar reports. I don’t understand what is going on at the BBC but both accurate recording and series link data have been problematic for several weeks. As an example, the lunch time news on BBC1 SD (Chesterfield transmitter) which should have been 35 minutes recorded for nearly an hour yesterday. Numerous complaints have been submitted to the BBC and all you can do for now is keep a close eye on the recording schedule.
As a side note, 100% signal strength can be an indication of the signal being too high (either because you are close to a major transmitter or because of over amplification); I don’t think it has anything to do with your current problems but one to consider if you ever start to get picture break up problems. 100% signal quality is what matters with digital transmission.

It’s only been an issue for the last few days. Nothing has changed in months. Pretty sure it’s a service issue.
Yes of course it is a “service” issue but how have you checked whether it is a loss of connectivity or a DNS server problem?

The scheduled recording transmission fails to record due to the over-run of the live content. That fact alone doubles the risk of a failed recording, the failed recording duration remains the same.
I agree; it is exactly the point I was making in my previous post. Your position has changed from “Scheduled programme duration doesn’t usually vary much.” to accepting that variations in programmes you don’t record can change the start time of the type of recordings you are interested in.
In this situation padding is completely useless there’s no way to predict when the live event will finish, only a manual recording with a start time after the live event has actually finished will record but how would you know what to use as a start time, if you get it wrong and the live event is still being transmitted it will fail due to a recording clash.
I am certainly not advocating padding and have never used it. It is irritating that at the moment the BBC are getting it spectacularly wrong at the moment. The new at 1pm on BBC1 was cut short by about 12 minutes today.

Without me doing anything, it changed itself from a single episode to series record. That’s spooky!
It is not spooky, it is just the BBC realising they made an error and correcting it. Generally speaking the BBC are very good at accurate recording but recently they have been very poor and I suspect an attempt to fix the problem made things worse. I have confidence that they will sort it out before too long.

The programmes mentioned as failing here certainly don’t fit in the live content category.
An earlier programmes over-running can have an impact on the programmes follwoing it regardless of the category.
Quick check on my 5000T currently has 594 recordings, none of them fit the category except perhaps the Brit Awards (which recorded fine. Wouldn’t you say 594 to 1 fits the great majority ?
I most certainly wouldn’t agree; you are assuming that your recording habits are the same as everyone else.

I only know because attempting to open a website gives a DNS error. Trying again about 15-30 seconds later it connects fine.
If you are getting DNS errors then have you considered the possibility is that it is the DNS server you are using that is the problem rather than the connection. A few years ago I had endless problems with one of our in house developed application that was rather sensitive to DNS errors (surprisingly at the time Google DNS was pretty poor). In the end I switched the DNS servers to Open DNS and all the problems went away. The addresses for the OpenDNS servers are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
