My 4000T was using the IP address of my router as the DNS server. I changed the DNS addresses to the OpenDNS servers as suggested by Martin Liddle, and so far, after a week, all is well. I have removed the 24hr timer that was rebooting the 4000T every morning at the same time.
Excellent news. Please keep us updated perhaps with another report in a month.

Well I must say you guys are miracle workers as far as I’m concerned! I plugged in a little Pictek aerial and all the channels are up and running with perfect reception.
Happy you found a solution. I think that if you had a full size aerial we would be explaining to you how to reduce the signal to stop the picture breaking up.

I do happen to have a small indoor aerial which I used when I had a second TV on the top floor so I’ll dig that out and see what happens.
If you are getting 50% signal strength with no aerial there must be a reasonable chance that a decent indoor aerial will be satisfactory.

ITV just now is really bad. Tuner 1 Strength is 48% but Quality is jumping back and forward between 70% and 30%.
First thing I would try is a manual tune using the instructions in the FAQ https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/manual-tuning-instructions-1

ParticipantCould you tell us the signal strength and quality on a BBC channel and on a channel with poor reception (Press red F button, selecting Settings>Channel settings>Signal Test).

I have recently purchased a humax fvp 5000t for my parents to replace their old Sony recorder. However during set up it will only find 6 channels. The old box can still find 100 plus so I’m unsure if it is an aerial problem or fault with the new box?
Start by telling us the signal strength and quality on one of the channels it has found (Press red F button, selecting Settings>Channel settings>Signal Test).

By programme listings I just mean the programme menu for the next few days or week or whatever.
On a 9150T a copy of the programme guide (what I think you describe as the programme menu) at shutdown is stored on the hard drive and used to initially populate the guide when the box restarts; it is then gradually refreshed from the broadcast data. In the case where the hard drive is formatted then this stored copy of the guide is deleted so the guide will initially be blank and should then repopulate over a few minutes; exactly how fast will depend on which channels the box happens to be tuned to. So if after the format, the guide was initially blank and the gradually returned this is completely normal.

Will the WD10EARS work if the current drive turns out to be unrepairable?
Hopefully someone else will answer that question as I don’t know enough about the FOXSAT to be sure.

like crystaldisk it has a box which is green/yellow/red and displayed warning/yellow. there are a number of single line reports below this and two are in yellow relating as far as i can remember to bad/reallocated sector both about 200.
Let us know the full output from Crystal when it has finished. It might be better to try and squeeze a bit more life out of the hard drive as there is rumoured to be a new Freesat box launching later this year.

My Foxsat which has a 1TB WB10EURX drive and on custom firmware 4.1.3, will not boot, so disconnected HD drive and boots as normal. Removed drive to connect to laptop and DiskGenius reports warning so there are bad sectors.
Can you explain a bit more; are these bad sectors that DiskGenius can’t repair? What does the SMART data for the hard drive say?

Thanks. Its my girlfriends actually so after it did it again for the 2nd time I disabled automatic software updates, and formatted it as it was about 80% full most of which had been on it for ages that would never be watched now.
If it happens again in the near future then it is likely the hard drive is at the end of its life (used up its spare sectors) and then the options are to replace the hard drive or buy a new box.
So its just happened again. This is the 3rd time but this time it didnt delete the recorded index only the programme lists which are now restored the same as a reboot does.
Not sure what you mean by programme lists? Do you mean there were no programmes in the guide or do you mean the list of future scheduled recordings was lost or something else?
We use scart leads not HDMI I dont see what difference that would make but I’ve also just disabled TV software updates too in case this is triggering something, as the screen flashes with a message saying something like loading loader version…(very fast then quickly disappears).
There are no OTA updates for the 9300T so it won’t do any harm and will stop the box booting up in the early hours to check.

Yes If I google TalkTalk DNS I get 62.24.134.1 & 62.24.243.2 When I look at my router (d-link 3782) I find the setting are, 79.79.79.79 & 79.79.79.80
Thank you. This link https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Using-3rd-Party-DNS/ta-p/2205279 quotes the DNS values you are using, so they seem to be an alternate TalkTalk DNS. If they are working for you then leave well alone. If you do start seeing problems then I recommend OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 works well for me and solved problems I was having with ISP DNS and Google DNS.

Sorry for not understanding but what does the 74% mean?
I think Graham is saying the Which (Consumer Association) testing gave the Aldi battery a test score of 74%.

The DNS’s in my router are different from those widely shown on the net.
Could you explain what you mean please?

I may be missing the obvious, but turning our TV and 5000T box we get a message saying we have a weak or no signal, but the remote for the Humax doesn’t select anything other than on or off.
Do you think the weak signal message is coming from the Humax or the TV? May be a silly question, but have you checked that the Tv is using the correct HDMI input for the Humax?
