The machine recorded HD tv channels until 9% disk capacity was remaining, at which point I stopped the test. It would seem 2Tb hard drives are completely compatible with the HDR200T and can be used to full capacity if needed. The media page takes a long time to process when the disk is almost full but at the 9% available capacity my unit was still recording and playback was no problem. Finding recorded programmes was another matter! For anyone considering a 2Tb drive installation, I can recommend Seagate pipeline video drives (as tested) and Western Digital Green drives – WD20EURX was installed without problems and I’m sure the WD20EURS drive would be fine.
Thanks for confirming what I said initially.
One point – some units have drive cages with small fans attached and a lead which plugs into the mainboard. A 500gb unit I looked at didn’t have a fan, just a flat drive mounting plate (black plastic). There was nowhere to plug a fan lead into either, the small white socket was not fitted to the mainboard.
Was it a 3.5″ driver or a 2.5″ drive? I have a suspicion that the units shipped with a 2.5″ drive don’t have a 12V supply so won’t work with a 3.5″ drive.

They are aware of an issue affecting customers ability to record on the 4000T and 5000T models. And are working to fix it!
But these models are months if not years old?
Glad you took my advice. They will have changed something during the production run (possibly the type of hard drive fitted) and not tested properly. This is the first time I recollect this specific problem being reported here so I suspect the problem has only been introduced recently. I would guess if they have enough problem reports to warrant a pre-recorded message then I guess they will be prioritising a fix. You could see if your supplier has a slightly older box in stock they could exchange. Alternatively you could ask Humax if this problem only affects hard drives of a particular size and opt for a model with a different hard drive size. Alternatively you could simply leave the box running continuously until the fix is released. (Turn off Automatic Power Down in Settings> System Settings> Power Management)

As well as those, when going to settings > PVR Settings > both Playback Options and Storage become greyed out and cannot be chosen. Once again, if a factory reset is done, they can be chosen for a while but then stops again.
Various settings will be grayed out while the box is recording (or thinks it should be recording).
[It is as if that just after a factory reset the hard disk is operational and therefore pause, record and the playback and storage settings are working again. But after a while, the hard disk stops working until another factory reset is done.
It doesn’t sound good but I would suggest contacting Humax support by telephone to check whether they have any ideas. If not take it back to the supplier for an exchange as although the FVP boxes have quirks they are usually reliable at recording.

Any answers to the above would be appreciated
There is no know answer to the problem other than to put with it or to buy a new PVR.

I am hoping it will keep working until Humax bring out their new model perhaps at the end of the year.
What new model? The contract for the new Freesat box has been placed elsewhere.

I have one of the original 1000S versions with the display. It has started to do some weird things from time to time. H
You might want to describe the “weird things” to see if anyone recognises the symptoms.
I would like to change the hard disk. Has anyone done this on the forum and has anyone tried to use an SSD disk?
Plenty of people have changed hard drives. A modern good quality SSD is feasible but it isn’t used commonly because the only benefit is to eliminate hard drive noise; the performance of the standard drives is more than adequate for a two tuner PVR.

You’d of thought that others would have found a solution from Humax by now.
My guess is that the problem is in the decoding chip which I assume can’t be fixed by a normal software update.

Has happened with all 4 but always happens with iplayer and uktv
I suggest taking it back to the supplier or talking to Humax support.

On return to live tv (after watching a player) I have waited up to 10 minutes and still cannot pause live tv.
On return to live tv (after watching a player) I select a programme from the guide and press the record button, I get the message that my programme is set to record- but after the programme should have finished recording
is this happening with all players or one specific player?

What seems to happen is the global subtitles on/off option gets out of synch with the remote control sub option. Generally cycling both options fixes the issue.
I agree that other Humax boxes can exhibit this problem to some degree but my experience is that it is much worse on the FVP-5000T.

Thanks for the reply. I’m recording BBC1 and BBC2 in HD for a period of time to fill up the hard disk and see if fhere are problems over 1 Tb. I’ll post the results.
Please do. The similar HDR-FOX T2 will certainly support 2TB without issue (and can be persuaded to use more than 2TB with custom firmware but that is not an option for the HDR-2000T).

Ah lets see what I and many others got out of the box then. A unit that wouldnt output sound every time until a firmware update about a year later.
Our experience is that it would very occasionally fail to output sound. Individual experience will depend on the make and model of TV and whether or not CEC is disabled.
A unit that doesnt recognise media functions and takes at least one reboot(maybe more) to do so. That fault is intermittent actually making it more of a niggle.
In our experience that only occurs after power off (rather than standby) and can be worked around).
A unit that reboots when coming out of certain internet functions or just randomly on occasion when it cant cope.
All the PVRs I have owned do that occasionally and I don’t believe the HDR-2000T to be any worse in that respect.
A unit that is more noisy than it should be having been stripped right down since the Mk1 version and now without all the shielding and dampers on the hard drive. The fan is a red herring…they should have kept the fan because all the extra damping and shielding came with it. a little bit of fan noise is nothing compared with how the faulty later units amplify head noise
Our experience is with an early HDR-2000T and that doesn’t have a noise issue as far as we are concerned. If you read all the sections of the Forum you will find all Humax units sometimes attract complaints from individuals about the level of noise. I suspect that is when a unit that is a bit noisier than average is purchased by someone with better hearing than average. Simple answer is if you are not happy take it back and buy something else which you didn’t do.
I am helping people by informing them they have bought a substandard product. It is a poor product overall because its flawed. The good picture and recordings wouldnt really save any product that doesnt switch on properly.
You would be helping people if you pointed them at a better product. There isn’t a lot of choice in the PVR market these days as far as I am aware and they all have downsides.
I am having too much of a go….not really when you consider its the most flawed product I own
I think you very definitely are; it gets very boring to read the same story again and again.

Hi, can anyone tell me if a 2Tb drive will work in a 2000T without any special formatting or partitioning?
A 2TB drive is the largest you can fit and I it should work fine. I fitted one to my partners HDR-2000T and I believe that she has it over 50% full without problems.
PS Seen a lot of negagive comments about yhe 2000T but my experience is positive. I ran mine for ages on its standard 1Tb drive with no problems
I am glad somebody else shares my view that the HDR-2000T is a reasonable box.

ParticipantInteresting BBC cockup last night when a recording labelled as Match of the Day was made (BBC1 HD) but started part way through the 10pm News (funnily enough during a segment of the news on last nights football) and lasted for seventy minutes (22:29 to 23:40). So this included the end of the main news, the time where local news is shown on SD, a weather forecast and the programme Glow up. Quite what went wrong I have no idea.

Ok yes I accept what you are saying but Im getting frustrated with you talking about hard drive swaps.
I get frustrated by your repeated attempts to portray the HDR-2000T as a very poor product; it isn’t perfect but it does a reasonable job for most people. We have had an HDR-2000T for five years which is mainly used by my partner and she is very happy with it. The only issue we have had was a faulty remote control (the early ones were problematic) which was replaced free of charge by Humax without any fuss. In the case of the hard drive swap I described this was because my partner wanted a larger hard drive not because there was any problem with the operation of the hard drive.
If somebody is having difficulty in changing a hard drive I will try and help; I really don’t understand why that frustrates you. Perhaps you could put more effort into trying to help people and less about criticising the HDR-2000T.
