My trusty Humax Fox HDR (with custom firmware) will not handshake via HDMI to new TVs (composite ok) and sadly, I’m looking for a replacement.
You might like to describe what make and model of TV you are trying to connect the HDR-FOX T2 to? there have been discussions about HDMI adapters that might resolve the problem,
The 5000 seems the obvious choice but the negative issues (reliability, freezing, interface) make me very nervous about choosing this device.
I am not aware of any significant current reliability issues nor freezing issues. I have an FVP that I use in preference to the HDR-FOX T2 because subtitles work properly and it doesn’t suffer from the sound blip problem which affected the HDR-FOX T2 when connected to a recent LG TV. The user interface isn’t quick but I can live with it; there are irritations because the user interface doesn’t behave in a consistent way but they are relatively minor and again I can live with them. If you do decide to buy an FVP then buy it on-line so that you can return it if you don’t like it.

Am running this through the electric cables vs wifi.
When you say you are running it through the electric cables, I take it that you are using Powerline or Homeplug adapters? Are you aware that these also emit electromagnetic radiation; ask a radio amateur? See for instance https://en.geovital.com/ethernet-over-power-line-eop-powerline-powerlan-and-health-effects/ If these frequencies are an issue for your health then it would be advisable to use a network cable. Flat network cables are available that are relatively easy to hide under the carpet.

Since I last commented upon this issue, both the catchup and main EPGs have been rock solid (hope I won’t regret that comment
).
Good. What puzzles me is why it works for some people but not others.

Suddenly noticed all my recordings except two to be done last night had disappeared. I had deleted some but no idea why they all disappeared. I have tried turning off at the plug both when on and when on standby. Nothing received and as HDD showing 92% available I assume they have disappeared forever.
Sadly I think you are correct that the recordings have gone. It is unusual for it to happen. Am I correct in assuming you didn’t get a prompt to reformat the hard drive? The usual problem is that when the file system is damaged it is marked as read only and the format prompt appears.
All scheduled programmes are still listed,
Exactly as expected; the schedule of future recordings is not stored on the hard drive, it is held in flash RAM.

He said there was an issue with signal quality. Anyway £240 later I have a new aerial on the roof which is giving out 97% strength and 100% quality. So all my issues have now gone away.
Just keep in mind that signal strength of 97% may be too high for the Humax; easily fixed IF you start to have problems by using an attenuator. Obviously if everything is working fine, no need to do anything.

A few weeks ago, the on demand services on my HDR-1100S started continually buffering, every 2 or 3 minutes for maybe 5 to 10 seconds – they used to work fine. On demand is currently unusable [
]I have turned off and removed the power cable from the HDR-1100S – several times.
Have you tried turning off the power to the router and leaving it for say 30 seconds before powering it up again? I have certainly seen routers get very confused now and again.

Various channels at various times from Emley Moor transmitter. Not sure how this would cause a power failure!
Nobody is suggesting it is actually a power failure: to try and understand the problem we need to get data about what is happening and just possibly a pattern will emerge. It would be helpful if you could post in this thread when it happens again with more precise details.

Just joined to say I’m having this issue over the past few weeks. Power hasn’t been off, it just fails to record with the same message.
Please could you tell us which programmes (giving channel, time and date) failed to record properly. Also which transmitter your Humax is tuned to.

Ah. I see. I understood this to mean that you had been in touch with Humax and they suggested you returned it to them, not a third party seller.
Past experience is that Humax won’t take any responsibility for anything purchased via ebay.

Full-HD = 1920 x 1080 = 398,131,200
Actually I make that 2,073,600
4K = 4 X times Full-HD = 1,592,524,800
and that 8,294,400
Could you clarify please?

Well I finally got it to work. I used MTU checker to determine what MTU I was getting from BT Infinity. It showed a maximum MTU of 1484. I think this is lower than the default as the connection is PPPoE. Subtracting 40 bytes (20 bytes each for IP & TCP headers) I then set MSS clamping to 1444.
Bingo, it works. No idea why the Humax box needed this set, whereas nothing else did.
Interesting observation, thank you.

I had a look at my amp today, its an antiference one with 8 x 7Db outputs and a single FULL 26Db. I swapped the connections so my troublesome setup had the FULL output. My Humax then shows as 100% signal and 100% quality.
You don’t want a 100% signal strength; that is likely to lead to tuner overload. My advice is to aim for 80% signal strength.
The problem I have is my other humax will only work on the FULL setting so I cant test this with my problem setup without impacting the other TV also. I was considering replacing the AMP with a Labgear LDA2061LR to see if this helps. For now I have moved the connection on the amp to another port – I’ll monitor.
Let us know how things work out.

What I am really asking are there regular software updates and are they likely to include my ‘minor’ fix, now that it’s been drawn to their attention ?
I certainly wouldn’t bet on it. Some times software updates appear with a major fix announced and some other problems fixed or minor new features introduced without any notification. In my view the FVP has an awful lot of features that work in a sub optimal way but I am not really expecting Humax to fix them. What I would expect is a new model of box with a bit more CPU power to make it more responsive and some of the irritating issues fixed, but that is pure speculation. However it is certainly true Humax make money by selling boxes and only goodwill from providing software updates.

I am going to get the device back to the owener and he is gping to send it to digirepairs.
It would be very helpful to know what happens if the box is sent to DigiRepairs.

Already tried that. No joy. What I did try was bypassing the Unifi router by setting my Netgear modem up as a router again to check the path to the router (via power line and switch). As expected that worked. What was odd was that when I reverted to the Unifi router, it continued to work for a while, until I power cycled the Humax.
Then it struggled to even use DHCP to get an address, used the default 169 one. Had to directly connect the Humax via long Ethernet cable to the switch, bypassing the power line adaptors for DHCP to work again.
What make and model of power line adaptor are you using?
