Will it be possible, or will it even work, if I plug a wifi adapter/dongle to my HDR 1100S, so I can remove the ethernet cable?

I thought an HDR-1100S had built in WiFi so why would you want to use a dongle?

humax do however offer one of their employees visiting your house if your device has any issues.

Do you have personal experience of that? I haven’t heard of Humax routinely offering home visits.

the model numbers which DEFINITELY have it so I can track them down on Ebay – alas, most of the sellers are uninformed and not too helpful.

The only Humax box that I know of that definitely has this feature is the Humax Aura (FVP-4KGTR). I am pretty sure none of the earlier Freeview boxes have the feature but I don’t know about the Youview and Freesat boxes.

Will need to be of the Freeview flavour. I’m aware of the Aura, but saw mixed reviews years ago when it came out. Is it a contender now? I guess the OS concerns me, will it be vulnerable to attack? And can it record multiple programs with just one arial plugged in?

For my purposes the Aura is usable; it does still have quirks but you learn to work around them. It can simultaneously record up to four programmes.

MY question is will the Aura pick up the 2 networks, one wifi for the Internet and the other wired for 4k films?

I don’t think that will work but perhaps you could try and report back.

With my current Windows 10 PC, I have achieved (unfortunately, I don't remember how) to be able to see the device directly, see attached picture 1.

Now, I need to switch to new Windows 11 PC. As said, I'm not able to configure the Humax Receiver again like shown in picture 1.

I suspect this is a connection to the DLNA server on the Humax. In Windows 10 a DLNA client is available by default. For some reason Microsoft didn’t make it available by default in Windows 11. On the Windows 11 PC trying going to Control Panel> Programs and Features> Turn Windows Features On or Off and then make sure Media Features and the sub directory “Windows Media Player Legacy app” ae both ticked.

I have bougt a tcl roka tv and l don’t know how to connect my humax 5000T. I am not tech savvie and don’t have a good wifi signal so only want it to play and record.

I think you need an HDMI cable to connect between the TV and The 5000T.

I have a Humax 1800T. A few days ago the video function stopped working and I could not access recordings. I thought the fault may have been due to a worn-out button on the remote and bought a brand new one. This works perfectly on all other funtions but I am still unable to access the video function. Any suggestions?

Assuming you have tried the age old trick of turning the mains power off for 20s and then starting the box up again then I would guess that it is either a file system problem or a hard drive problem. Depending on your level of knowledge about Linux it might be possible to preserve the recordings. If not then the other option is to format the hard drive which will erase all recordings.

When I switch to the TV Guide, next to the channel number, there should be the channel name but the only ones on there are the BBC and channel 5 names only.

I’ve even done a full channel search which deleted all my favourites and recording schedule but still nothing.

Can this be fixed or is that it?

If you look at this thread https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/channel-logos-not-showing other people were reporting EPG issues on Freesat but are now reporting they have been resolved. Perhaps try putting the box in standby and then turning the mains power off for 20 seconds and see if the problem fixes itself when the box restarts.

Yes mines back to normal. Thank you Humax much appreciated.

I think the fix is more likely to have come from Freesat.

The apps do work, is there a way to get into the settings

What settings do you want to get into? The way I use is to press the red F button and then move the cursor along to the gearwheel icon to the right of “Recordings”. When you say the backwards EPG is blank, how long are you leaving it to populate? Depending on the speed of your broadband it can take several seconds to start to populate.

The aura wasn’t in standby, just the tv. The epg is blank.

Do the player apps (eg iPlayer) work?

I have just purchased an aura, having had previous models over the years. It states in the blurb that you can rewind live TV and all previous models have done this, but you can’t. I left the Aura on a channel, put tv on standby, hour half later wake tv attempt to rewind but it doesn’t.

Did turning off the TV put the Aura into standby (shown by the colour of the front LED changing colour)?

Also it says you can scan back 7 days and watch stuff, again you can’t

You should be able to providing the box is connected to the Internet. What happens when you try to enter the backwards EPG?

On the assumption the issue with the Humax is just the fact it won’t pick up live tv broadcasts, is there any way I can copy the existing recordings from its hard drive to a new Freeview / Recorder via a PC if necessary and what would be involved??

It depends whether the recordings are HD or SD. Both are encrypted when stored on the hard drive but the SD recordings can be downloaded in various ways that will remove the encryption. What operating system is your PC using?
