Thanks for your input but i’ve tried both sockets and neither will read the stick.
How was the stick formatted? Do you know if it is FAT32 or ext2 or ext3?

I can’t get myfox t2 to read files on a memory stick via the usb slot.
If i try: Memory, Settings, System data, Storage I get Internal HDD and cruzer edge (this being the memory stick i am using).
Clicking on HDD gives me access to recorded files but the Cruzer Edge won’t open so i am unable to play films stored on the memory stick.
I also have a Fox T2 receiver which will read the same stick.
The fact that an HD-FOX T2 will read it but an HDR-FOX T2 won’t is very odd. Have you tried both USB ports on the HDR-FOX T2 (one at front under a flap, the other at the back)?

I had been having problems with playback programmes on 4000T (excessive pixilation) so decided to disconnect all leads, remove plugs etc and then to ‘start again’ with factory default.
Not the first thing I would have tried but at least it gives you a clean slate.
Logged in to WLAN and attempted auto-search of channels. Each time, I only get get 9 BBC tv channels plus BBC radio stations.
Look very carefully at the aerial lead; if it is a fly lead from a wall plate has the other end become loose? Are the connectors still attached properly? If it looks Ok have you got another lead you could try temporarily? Certainly my first guess is that it is an aerial lead problem of some sort.

The fact that the 19 minutes played seems to suggest the codec error is a red herring.
I think you are getting confused. The OP says they played back the 19 minutes on the TV. The attempt to play back the recording transferred over the network was on the PC. On my PC I can play back the downloaded files using Microsoft applications but I have at some point downloaded the Microsoft MPEG-2 extension which may be the key to the problem; see https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/mpeg-2-video-extension/9n95q1zzpmh4?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
Somehow the copying via the network is mangling the file.
I haven’t seen any evidence of that.

We then downloaded VLC Player, we then found the recordings through the PC. We right clicked and opened with VLC. The computer then downloaded the recording and played through the VLC player (the full 8 hour recording).
This sounds to me as though you have played the file using the DLNA server on the Humax. You said you had previously managed to download the file; what file extension does it have? My test copies are shown as .mpeg. Use Windows Explorer to locate the file, right click from the “Open with” option on the popup men select VLC and it should start to play.

We then tried the computer way. However when we try and play the recording we’re getting the message
‘Missing codec
Choose something else to play. This item is in a format we don’t support.
0xc004f011′
I don’t think you are doing anything wrong. I haven’t got much experience of USB downloads, hopefully somebody else can help. As regards the ‘missing codec’ message was this trying to play it on the PC? If so what software? If it is a Microsoft product then you can download extra codecs. Alternatively download the free VLC player that should play it without any fuss, see https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.en-GB.html

I understand that channels may change but surely in this instance where the schedule will be the same and the channels will be the same after such a short time interval it would make sense to be able to recall the schedules. It’s very tedious having to reprogram all the schedules
I agree it is tedious having to reprogram the schedule. Doing a reset to default settings is an unusual activity; I don’t think I have ever had to do one in the two years I have owned an FVP. The FVP does allow the schedule to be retained when a retune is needed which is an improvement on previous Humax boxes; however the implementation isn’t very good and often leads to problems.

Apologies it’s taken this long to reply to you.
Yes, thankfully it’s a SD recording. Yes I do have a PC running windows 10.
If your FVP is connected to your network and on the FVP you have the Network Server set to on (Advanced settings). Then if you use Windows Explorer on the PC and look in the “This PC” section you should see the FVP listed (something like Humax_FVP DMS) right click on it, select Open and then navigate My Contents> Recordings and then after a short delay you should get a list of all recordings. Find the recording and right click and select Copy and then select where you want it copied to. The advantage of doing it this way is that it is much quicker than copying to an attached USB devices.

The problem I am having is that with the Panasonic I get BBC1west but with the 5000t I get BBc1 midlands They are BOTH using the same aerial to receive the signal from Lark Stoke Transmitter I want to be able to get “Points West news on BBC1
I have retuned the Humax many times to no avail
I cannot understand why 2 freeview systems in the same location using the same Ariel
one gets BBC1Midlands the other BBC1 west? . I am obviously missing something but do not understand this. Please help/ advise
You need to do a manual tune in these circumstances using the procedure in the FAQ at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/manual-tuning-instructions-1 Note that the link to digitaluk is obsolete. Use https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management to access the Freeview checker. Have a go and come back and ask questions where you need clarification.

On connecting to my laptop the drive isn’t seen at all, I plugged it into my new Humax FVP-5000T recorder via the usb socket but even that doesn’t see it
Any help would be apreciated as the wife has a lot of serialised progs on it as well as films
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but unless you can get the FVP-4000T working again then the recordings are lost because they are encrypted using a key that is unique to the box that made the recording. There are ways to copy off the encrypted recordings from the hard drive but currently there is no known way to remove the encryption.

But does it work in Windows 10 64bit v2004 ?
I don’t know for sure but I think it should; why not try it? Unlike things like Media Controller it doesn’t require a USB driver.

Participanttimpars – 3 mins ago »
That has not made any difference I’m afraid.
Next thing to try would be a reset to default settings; this will delete your schedule of future recordings and revert any settings you have changed to the original values but any recordings you have will be preserved.

But do I have to use DOS window? or does it work with a windows GUI ?
You said in your first post that you had downloaded humaxrw and the humaxrw front end. The instructions for HumaxrwfrontEnd are:
“Windows only, .net framework 3.5 required and you need HumaxRW.exe (not provided) to be in the same folder as the Front-End. Some features:
– Auto detect humax disk drive
– Easy selection of files – can even be based on keyword (e.g. ‘Peppa Pig’)
– Download to any folder on your PC
– Option to keep only the .ts files (deleting the other 3 files created for each .ts file) [note, this option deletes all the .epg, etc files in the download location, it’s not selective]
– Upload .ts files to the humax disk drive (have ts2hrw.exe in the same folder as the Front-End if you have no hre file for the .ts file)
– No knowledge of DoS required to use it
As this Front-End simply controls HumaxRW, all the same warnings apply when using this as they do when using HumaxRW normally. In addition, I accept no responsibility for any undesirable outcomes of using this Front-End software – i.e. use at your own risk.
One other thing is that the Front-End waits for HumaxRW to finish whatever it’s doing before continuing, so when downloading, uploading, etc it may say “Not Responding” but this is normal and the Front-End will recover when HumaxRW finishes it’s current operation.”
So basically if everything is working you interact via a graphical user interface.

My new FVP5000T has been working fine but today I can only see one screen of channels and shows Freeview play as soon as you try to move in the guide
Try putting it into standby and when the hard drive has stopped spinning, turn off the mains power for 10 seconds. the restart it and see if the problem has gone.

Obviously I only need to reformat once, but I’d like to be confident that the new owner has the ability to do this via the menus – and not by having to first remove the drive.
I have never formatted the drive in my FVP-5000T so I don’t have any personal experience however I don’t recollect seeing this problem reported previously. Plenty of people have been advised to format their drive so I suspect there is something slightly odd about your box. Hopefully someone else here will have an idea about what is going on.
