Hi, Can anyone remind me what format the HDR-2000T uses for an external USB connected HDD?

It can be NTFS, FAT32 or ext2/3.

I think I’ve used an NTFS formatted drive before, 3Tb, it was a long time ago, but I wondered if that’s what it’d format the drive to if I do so via the 2000T’s own menus?

If you format it via the Humax I suspect it will be ext3. Was the drive 3Tb (bits) or 3TB (bytes)?

My other question was size limit. Is a 4Tb external HDD likely to cause any issues?

I would have thought a drive larger than 2TB would have to use a GPT style partition table and I don’t think the HDR-2000T will support GPT partitioned drives NB I haven’t tried so could be wrong.

I would like to replace the hard drive ideally with an SSD.

If you want to fit an SSD then you want a decent quality one for it to have a reasonable lifetime. Be aware that the only real advantage of an SSD in a PVR is the absence of noise.

Is there a step by step guide or is it just a matter of installing drive and turning on and running a setup?

Just install the drive and when you turn it back on it will offer to format the new drive; no other setup needed.

So, Humax uk are dependent on people the other side of the planet for a fix to faults in their service!

Correct. It has been like that since Humax entered the UK market more than 15 years ago. It isn’t ideal but it has usually provided solutions to problems eventually.

I’ve written a post about disk recovery here: HDD recovery

I can’t see where in the post you mention recovery of deleted recordings?

I want to try to recover programmes recorded on a humax 2000T that were deleted, so is there an alternative ?

Humaxrw is of no use on an HDR-2000T. It is a tool to transfer and in some circumstances recover recordings after file system corruption on the 9200, 9150 and 9300 boxes which use a proprietary file system. The HDR-2000T uses a Linux ext3 file system. My only suggestion is to investigate the various file recovery tools available for Linux; note the problem may well be made more difficult because the recordings are encrypted.

I go to network settings to configure WLAN it says wireless network is not detected. I have rebooted my router and restarted my pvr box with no change.

It sounds to me a though the WiFi card in the PVR has got into an odd state. When you restarted the PVR did you turn off the electric power first?

Hi, I have recently bought the FVP 5000 and also have the FVP 4000, both of these are 500GB and I would like to fit a larger drive preferably 2TB. I am not worried about the previously recorded programs so don’t mind if the machine formats during setup.

Is this feasible, I have done it several times on DTR 1010s and HDR 1000s models

As far as I am aware there is no problem with fitting a 2TB drive to either FVP.

When I scroll through them the ‘Record’ option does not appear.

As the ‘Record’ option does not appear I presume that must mean my hard disk drive has broken and cannot be accessed and it’s time to buy a new PVR recorder?

Either the hard drive is dead as you suggest or the file system is in a strange state. I suggest you try formatting the drive from the HDD Control menu item in the record menu. If that fails then the hard drive is probably dead. You could consider changing the hard drive which isn’t difficult.

If that is the case I’d be very grateful for PVR recommendations. I’ve always been very happy with the Humax PVR-9300T and would like something easy to use. I also wish to have something that would be compatible with the Nikkai 5.8Ghz video sender/receiver that I have as I use it to receive the TV channels on two old portable televisions I have in my house.

The Humax options are not particularly impressive at the moment but if you want to stay with Humax then a reconditioned HDR-2000T or a new or reconditioned FVP-5000T might fit the bill. I have a growing doubt about how committed Humax are to the PVR market going forward. Alternatively consider the Manhattan T3-R who seem to be committed to developing their box.

Do Humax look at this forum – or do we have to grumble to them directly somewhere?

I doubt that Humax look at this forum these days so you need to complain to them directly.

I have just replaced the original disk with a 2TB solid state disk. I had to convert the disk from GUID Partition Table (GPT) to Master Boot Record (MBR). Please note that MBR has a 2TB size limit.

Interesting. Please could you tell us what make and model of SSD you have fitted? It will be interesting to hear how you get on in the long term so please pop back every year or so and let us know how it is doing.

    Yes I know, I’ve had my Humax HDR-1000S for about 6 years :-) .

As I was trying to pause, I didn’t want to try off/on, power-cycling etc as that would be counter to what I wanted to achieve.

The other possible explanation is that the time shift buffer has become corrupt. The easy fix is to format the hard drive but that has the rather serious consequence of deleting all the stored recordings.

    Anybody any thoughts?

At a guess the flash RAM where the firmware is stored has either failed or been massively corrupted. I don’t think anything other than a new motherboard will help.

its an Hitachi JPT39C sata 3.0, although its a 2010 model its unused as new.

I am not a FOXSAT expert but I thought SATA III drives needed to be set to SATA II mode for use in the FOXSAT; on some drives this is done with jumpers and on others by a software utility.

Yes, I can access the FVP 5000T by IP address but PC access is not really of interest to me, would just like a reliable means of transferring programs to and from my USB attached HD, a process which works perfectly on my old HDR 1800T.

I don’t understand why you don’t find it of interest? Transferring across the LAN and saving to the USB drive attached to the PC will be much quicker than transferring to the USB drive attached direct to the FVP.

Can’t see that my FVP 5000T will ever be any more than an “additional recorder” on my system even that being limited by the ability to reliably transfer recordings to USB HD should longer term archiving be required.

Have you tried both USB ports on the FVP-5000T? Are you aware that you can transfer and decrypt recordings direct to a Windows 10 PC; see https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/file-transfer
