InactiveAfter working fine since May 2015, I have found that my HDR-1000S 1TB box is the cause of my home network locking up!
This problem started several weeks ago and to restore the network I had to power off/on the Netgear switches (the BT Hub5 continued to work throughout providing WiFi access to the Internet but it couldn’t be accessed by the PCs connected to the wired network). By adding back different parts of my home network I was able to eventually find that the problem was being caused the HDR-1000S box.
When the HDR-1000S is connected to the network the following messages appear on the screen about every 20 seconds:
LAN cable is plugged
LAN cable is unplugged
LAN cable is plugged
etc
This HDR-1000S box is the second replacement by Humax for my origianl which lost all its recordings several times (the first replacement box was replaced within a week because it locked up and the case was too hot to touch!).
I suppose this network issue can’t be easily fixed and Humax have done their bit by replacing the original box and so they can’t be asked to fix it.
Thinking of buy the HDR-1100S 2TB box as it has both LAN and WiFi network connections. Any major issues with the HDR-1100S?

ParticipantHave you tried a factory reset on the 1000S ?

InactiveI would try replacing the network cable – sounds exactly like a defective connection.

InactiveThanks Repassac
Followed your advice and replaced the network cable and also plugged it into another port in the Netgear 5 port switch.
The LAN cable error messages have disappeared!
Hopefully this is the problem sorted.
How can a network cable go faulty when it hasn’t been touched in months?

It was never correct in the first place.

InactiveI used my Fluke meter to test the cable that I removed and it is fine with no breaks in the wire pairs! Strange.
Tested my Humax box by using the Freetime app on my Samsung phone to record a programme this evening. When I checked later the Humax box had it scheduled for recording.

You changed ports, so faulty network switch?

InactiveThe Netgear 5 port switch now in place was a spare one that I had swapped in two weeks ago for the original Netgear 5 port switch as an attempt to try to identify the cause of the problem. I doubt that either switch has dodgy ports.
Today was the first time that the cable was disconnected from the Humax box port so possibly over time there was a cable connection issue at this port.

InactiveIt is happening again with the following messages being displayed:
LAN cable is unplugged
LAN cable is plugged
LAN cable is unplugged
etc
I started to watch a recorded programme but the handset pause and fast forward buttons wouldn’t work so I rebooted the box. On reboot the messages started again!
Changing the lan cable didn’t stop the messages this time.
The next thing I will try is grahamlthompson’s suggestion of doing a factory reset.

InactiveBefore doing the reset try rebooting your router

InactiveRebooted my router.
The “LAN cable is unplugged/plugged” messages continued with the router off, rebooting and fully booted.
Next, I did a factory reset of the HDR-1000S and then as the box restarted the “LAN cable is unplugged/plugged” messages began again.
At the network section of the reset it said that it was not connected to broadband!
After the reset completed the “LAN cable is unplugged/plugged” messages continued.
Am I correct in thinking that all of the above points to the problem being with the network hardware in the Humax box?

InactiveAs I understand it the HDR-1000S is connected to a switch which is then connected to your router.
Have you tested the cable from the switch to the router? What else is connected to this switch?
When the HDR-1000S is disconnected from the switch do the messages stop?

Good point. My 3 HBs and my HDR are connected ethernet to switches which are in turn ethernet to the router. The unplugged/plugged message flashes up once, max twice, every time I boot any of the boxes from sby. They then connect with no problems.

InactiveMy home network is as follows:
The BT master phone socket is in a small room upstairs. This is connected to the BT Home Hub5 which is then connected to a 8 port switch (I refer to this as the master switch). This switch is connected to:
1) 5 port switch in the study upstairs (my wife’s PC and laser printer are connected to it);
2) 8 port switch in downstairs front room (Samsung smart TV, Samsung DVD player, Samsung M3 speaker + controller box, BT YouView are connected to it);
3) 5 port switch in downstairs back room (my PC, HP JetDirect box, 5 port switch are connected to it).
Note: all switches are Netgear Gigabit switches.
The final 5 port switch mentioned in 3) above is about 10 feet away from the other switch in the same room and has the Humax box, Samsung DVD player, Panasonic TV, Amazon Fire box connected to it.
My home network has been in place for 10+ years and has worked flawlessly until this locking started several weeks ago. I purchased the original Humax HDR-1000S in April 2013. It and its replacement have worked fine on this network.
With the Humax box disconnected everything on my home network works fine. With the Humax box connected after two or three days the network locks up (can still access the internet by router’s wifi).
With the network locked up, doing pings from both PCs only showed the network printers connected to the PC’s local switch. This identified a problem at the master switch. Powering off/on the master switch restored the home network.
Your question: “When the HDR-1000S is disconnected from the switch do the messages stop?”. The answer is yes.

InactiveJust after sending my previous post it occurred me that I should try connecting the Humax box directly to switch 3) and exclude its local switch.
Did that and the Humax “LAN cable is unplugged/plugged” messages have stopped and everything seems to be now working!
