InactiveI have copied many BBC1 HD files from the internal HDD to USB HDD.
If I do it from the FoxSat the copy protection is shown on the USB file.
If I do the copy using my network (Raydon’s Media and File Server Bundle) there is no protection shown on the USB file.
Is this usual, anyone else come across this?

InactiveI suspect that either you did not copy the hmt file which contains, along with other programme details, a flag which indicates that the file has copy protection (or not) or the programme was not encrypted in the first place.
The broadcaster specifies if the programme is to be encrypted.

InactiveHI again,
It was a series link of old ‘Only Fools & Horses’.
Copied one of them using the Foxsat, and it came with the encrypted icon. Copied the rest using network pc and none came with the icon. I copied all 3 files for each plus the folder containing the screen shots.

InactiveI think this may be due to the fact that the hmt contains the file path and when you copy it with the network the path is not updated.
If you delete the origional files does the one you copied to the USB device with the network play or not?.

InactiveHow weird, all the files show encrypted now!
They play fine.

InactiveHi all, this is my first post so be easy on me

I’m using Raydon’s Media and File Server Bundle. I can stream standard definition recording to my PC (using the VLC client) with no problems. However if I try streaming a HD recoring I just get a black screen.
I realize that this is due to these recording being encrypted. What I want to know is if there is a way to sucessfully stream these recordings, as I don’t want to copy these big files to my PC. Surely it must be possible as we have the encryption key on the Humax box (in the .hmt file?)
Has anyone achieved this? If so how?

Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. If it was that easy it would have been done already. The encryption key is not in the .hmt file, it is hidden somewhere in the box’s hardware and is unique to each box. You can’t even play an encrypted recording on another HDR, so unless you are a reverse engineering genius you’ll just have to be happy with what you’ve got. Sorry !

InactiveThe encryption key on the FOXSAT HDR is well hidden and I did not find it in the flash memory – My thought is that that it might be dynamically computed at boot perhaps from the mac address.

ParticipantMy guess is MAC address plus serial number 💡

Inactiveclue might be why non-freesat will allow encryption free videos ❗

InactiveIt would be nice if programs could be at least shared (perhaps via dlna or to other Humax boxes on the local subnet without problems. Many of use have more than one Humax box.

Inactivesloppyjon – my simple guess would be that the flag to encrypt is carried in freesat data which is not processed in non freesat mode.

Great idea after all the HDR FOX T2 can do this to another HDR FOX T2 or a HD FOX T2 (Not much use to you sadly REPASSAC). Doubtfull if we will see this till the Mk2 Foxsat-hdr appears

InactiveCheers for the replies Raydon et al. (great work with the media bundle Raydon)
It’s really annoying why broadcasters encrypt HD content. You’d have thought that if they can encrypt HD content so well, then they’d do the same to the SD content (just to be bloody minded
)What I do find weird is that recordings of HD content is NOT encrypted in the “0.ts” file. It looks as though one could use this file as a work around to the encryption problem. However it looks as though it’s limited in length (around 16GB?) so older recording will drop off the end.

InactiveHi Dysanovic
Broadcasters encrypt because people pirate the stuff. BBC has a thriving DVD/BLURAY business. That is also another reason why they broadcast at a poor nitrate and 1440 x 1080. I personally think it is a dead cause. Just search the web for ripping DVDS and BLURAY.
