Hi, I have a question about archiving files. I would like to store HD content on a removable drive but I’m having problems copying with it connected via USB. The drive is a Freecom Toughdrive with plenty of free space on it. It took about 6 hours yesterday copying 1 40 minute SD

    program.

I believe that using FTP I am able to copy both SD and HD programs but I don’t know if this is the case with SAMBA, please advise.

I have Filezilla on my Windows 10 PC and can see the files on the Humax

The approach I thinking is to copy the files using one of the above to my PC, then copying them to the portable drive. Then plugging the portable drive back into the 4000T. Can anyone advise if that would work? I’d also like to know if I need to copy all the files or can I get away with copying with certain types e.g. “.ts”

The plan is to be able to watch them in HD if recorded in that definition.

    Many thanks for any help.

Whatever way you take files off the box, the HD ones remain encrypted.

Copying or streaming SD files decrypts the content.

The box will only play back files from usb that aren’t encrypted.

I think we may be at cross purposes here. I have just played back a film that was broadcast in HD by copying the files back to my portable drive and plugging it back into the PVR.

You copied a HD recording to a USB drive and was able to play it back from the USB drive ?

With the USB drive plugged back into the PVR, yes.

Which way did you get a HD recording on a usb drive (directly or via a PC) ?

I have a usb drive plugged in.

Oh, and just to let you know, it didn’t work when I just took the ‘.ts’ file, so I took all of them.

Using ftp ? Copying a whole set of recording files for a Channel 4 HD recording at the moment.

I have a folder with a HD .ts and the three sidecar files on a usb drive.

I can locate the recording using Video but it won’t play back. I had already tried this before but wondered if the later firmware had changed the situation. It’s not possible on my box to delete the recording and upload the files back to the 5000T internal HDD. FTP implementation on the box is read only.

Anyone else care to try this to see if it works for them.

If I remember correctly (I’ve had a cold so it’s been a little while) I copied the files using FTP from PVR to PC. Then windows explorer to copy the files as required from PC to Freecom Toughdrive using windows explorer. I copied these to the .recordings folder on the Freecom USB drive. They then appear under Recordings, along with those on the internal HD once the USB drive is plugged in to the PVR.

The USB drive doesn’t appear to be an option in recordings unless I missed something. I wonder if they have to be in a recordings folder in the drive root. I will try that.

Neither does it on mine. The USB recordings that have been saved to the .recordings folder on the USB drive just appear as normal.

You can copy/move HD recordings to a connected usb HDD and then playback on the same unit is was copied/moved from.

To copy/move highlight recording and use the + function.

To see contents of any connected usb HDD select storage in the left menu of recording list.

That didn’t work are you sure that you weren’t playing back the original files left on the hard disk ? Did you delete any after copying ?
