As stated above I called Humax main number explained the situation and asked if there was someone I could speak to about when a software update might be published. One word response “No”. Not “No, sorry” or “No, we don’t do that” – just “No”. I have since called the company I purchased the box from who were unaware of any issues and will take the box back for refund or replacement. I think I’ll get a Panasonic! R-

Panasonic Freeview Play?

I have had an FVP4000T for about 8 weeks now and have generally been pleased with it, apart from the problem of not being able to wake it up to watch it whenever it is performing a scheduled timer recording. I tried all of the suggested workarounds on this forum, but nothing seemed to make it work for me. I have a Panasonic TX-L37G10B TV.

A few evenings ago I was looking through the TV manual looking for some inspiration and suddenly read a note that if you are connecting a set-top or cable box to the TV it should be connected to input HDMI1. I already had a Panasonic home cinema system and DVD recorder connected to HDMI1 & HDMI2 and had connected the 4000T to HDMI3. As the Humax was already making a timer recording, I decided to try changing the inputs round, so that it was connected to HDMI1 instead of HDMI3. I gingerly pressed the ON button on the 4000T remote and hey presto, the picture and sound suddenly appeared on the TV. I have since tried waking it up during timer recordings on several occasions and it has worked every time.

I have the Viera Link on the TV set to ON, as it has some useful features, when connected to the home cinema system in particular. I have a CEC-free adapter connected to the 4000T HDMI cable, so that it does not keep turning the TV on or off.

If you have a Panasonic TV and have experienced similar problems, this may be the answer.

Just has a call from the technical chap of the supplier I got the Humax from who has suggested disabling the default power settings (HOME>SETTINGS>SYSTEM SETTINGS>POWER MANAGEMENT) by making both AUTO POWER DOWN and POWER SAVING IN STANDBY = OFF. I’ve changed mine and offer this advice to anyone else who has this issue. I’ll let you know how I get on. R-

Yes, it does switch the TV over to AV and display the letters EC/ in front of the HDMI1 label, if you turn the 4000T on when the TV is already on. This did not happen when it was connected to HDMI3.

Also, when recording on HDMI3 it stated that I had a 1080p input and I could view the volume control slider, but not any picture or sound. It would then be locked up with the blue light on and needed to be re-booted when the recording was complete.

It’s been that way on the Panasonic’s for years, at least on the older models. I don’t think it’s the case any more though, certainly not on my latest model. It’s a proprietary input peculiar to Panasonic. There is a downside to this though as happened with me on my last Panasonic Plasma PX60 – the chip that controls that port can and does fail and it did on mine. Getting a repair was both tricky and costly so I didn’t bother.

Still by switching the HDMI input on when it is selected solves your problem.

I still have the same issue after the software update with my Sony tv. Humax customer services say they are aware of the issue and are working on a software update and recommended I switched off Bravia link, which failed to resolve the problem.Are there any fixes that work and any idea when the software is likely to be available?

For me the issue seems to have been fixed by running a parallel connection using the composite output. Since doing this then re-introducing the hdmi connection the box has been OK for 2 weeks.

I think the problem was more hdmi handshaking than a pure CEC issue. My Sony does not have any CEC capabilities.

My 4000t will still not come on to my Samsung Freesat TV when selected while it is recording a program, a big blank black screen results. I have a CEC block connector in the HDMI cable to clear annoying uncommanded random switching. Only remedy is to unplug the unit from main power supply to reboot. I wonder what the software upgrade 1.01.34 Sept 6th actually did. The DNLA function via PC and Samsung pad still doesn’t work either, it used to previous to this upgrade. It then appeared that the switching on to the TV whilst recording had been fixed as it worked for a while, and then this last week went back to the original fault plus it now is very reluctant to select the ‘Home’ menu it just briefly flashes up then disappears, several selections are required to capture the ‘Home’ screen. I have been trawling through the various posts on different threads on this forum referring to these problems and they seem to have been going on for a very long time. All sorts of weird and wonderful remedies have been offered with varying results. When can we expect the faults be fixed? My other half says ‘That box is useless’. I have been a user of ‘Humax’ products for some years and have been pleased to recommend them to others but not this product. I am most disappointed
