InactiveWith the previous firmwares when I put the box into standby the disk stopped spinning within about ten seconds. I could then hear the click as it spundown. Last night as I put the box into standby I noticed I did not hear the click, so tonight I measured the time. It was one minute and fifty four seconds after I pressed standby that the disk stopped spinning. Has anybody else encountered this?
I raise it as an issue as I like to unplug my box every night. If people are unaware that the disk is still spinning when they remove power it could lead to disk corruption issues.

Faust: pull the other one.
Excuse me soupojuice but I am not in the habit of lying so I would prefer it if you didn’t suggest otherwise. I do not see the page load lags that you ere experiencing. I can beat the EPG but only just, and using the remote like that would not be normal. Perhaps you have a setup/signal issue? To dismiss other’s experience’s simply because they are not your own is unfair. I would say in the 4 months I have owned the box I have only experienced this issue on a couple of occasions.

Already mentions this in the post where you told him to pull the other one

InactiveYeah, but which one? 500gb, 1TB, or the new-new one with built-in wifi? It is possible that newer models have improved internals, which would be an implicit admission that the earlier models couldn’t cut the mustard, but with most users on here complaining about the slow UI (& therefore backing up my own experience) I need more data. It wouldn’t change my opinion anyway, tbh.

ParticipantI just measured my box. It takes about 0.5second from pressing the right skip key with one page of the epg on screen (the one under the Search button) for the full data to appear. Doubt it’s relevant but mine has a 2TB drive.
If any one doubts this I can video it.

InactiveYep, the lag is when you scroll/page *down* in the guide, not across.

Personally I don’t know what the fuss is about as its still a whole lot quicker than picking up and flicking through the pages of Satellite Weekly to see what’s on.

InactiveActually I think it was faster – pick up radio times, glance at page, press one button on remote to change channel.
As opposed to:
Pay extra 300 quid on top of TV cost for radio times replacement, click 4 buttons on remote to bring up TV guide and show favourites, scroll through 2 pages of channels, ten seconds later click another 2 buttons to change channel.
As an aside, a lot of lag is caused by all the submenus you have to navigate when clicking on things in the Guide.

I just tap in the channel number. If you say press 119 it jumps to put 119 at the top of the guide virtually instantly. Just tried going from 119 to 704 also near instant.

I’ve had the wife stood there with a stop watch timing the 1000s (she thinks I’ve lost the plot). Pressing the right skip key is same as yours 0.5 seconds paging up or down is 0.7 seconds. What is the problem, am I missing something?

InactiveI’ve been writing software for STBs for about 20 years now. I’ve got to say … this EPG is dog slow and badly designed. I would be ashamed to be part of the team that created this.
BTW … anyone tell me which BCM chip is in this turkey ??
