    Rocksta – 20 hours ago  »

I still have the problem with my unit too, having gone through all Freesat’s advice about factory reset, leaving for an hour etc.

I’ve had a quick look at the most recent posts here but I’ll need to re-read them. I originally started with my unit on manual ip address but went to dhcp around 6 months ago and it had been fine up until the latest s/w update which seems to have caused the problem.

Rocksta, try manual DNS change and update us all here. Also what sort of network are you using? ie direct cable connection from router to your humax box or via home plug. I have a doubt that DNS should resolve the issue.

    Thanks

My 901 & 903 channels are OK from TV Guide, and yes I’ve followed Freesat’s latest advice and they are aware of my issue and details.

I tried manual ip address, it made no difference, as I expected it would not, given that the internet connection must be OK to be able to access 901 & 903. I use ethernet cable & homeplug.

could be homeplug getting in the way, can you try connecting direct to the router and not via homeplug?

Thanks, but I see no logical reason for a homeplug to be an issue, given that 901 & 903 are accessible. I can’t connect it directly to a router anyway.

I can ping the Humax box, I can also use the homeplug with my laptop OK, and I have a Humax HB1000S which works ok on a different homeplug.

so from this, looks like the humax box has got a good Ip connection that you can ping it and play contents from 901 and 903. However, its unable to locate its servers which would provide you with data for ondemand and showcase etc…the servers are not down as I can see ondemand and showcase on my box all ok. So somehow your internet is unable to locate the servers, and a DNS change should do it. anyway let us know if you get anu update.

    Thanks

Presumably Rocksta has access to the servers on his HB1000S. It would be interesting to see what swapping them around does.

I don’t think access to the freesat servers is the primary issue, I think it is more that the box loses its internal details of the connection.

For example, if I go into network settings, it thinks it is not connected so asks me to choose connect automatically, which I do, and it shows the correct ip address and says ‘connected’. If then exit and go straight back in again, it thinks it is unconnected again.

I’ll have a go with the google DNS at some point when I have time and let you know the result, but I expect that will make no difference.

I agree, and more to the point, that’s what Freesat says is happening (some boxes ‘forget’ they’re connected). The part of the puzzle that remains unresolved, is why it only affects some boxes and not others.

I think this is the first time someone has posted with two boxes on the same router and one works the other doesn’t.

I tried using the Google DNS (8.8.8.8) and that didn’t make a difference, in that the problem still remained.

I then re-tried Freesat’s latest advice about factory reset etc. and I’m now in the period of waiting for an hour before doing the remaining few steps.

One thing I noticed is that when I put the unit into standby and then boot it, it eventually ends up at the Home page. However, following the factory reset, it ends up at the last TV channel selected before doing the reset, instead of the Home page which freesat say it should end up on. I’ll let them know that too.

    Good point.

One of Freesat’s early comments was to the effect that the problem should be cleared “just by using the box”. Does that suggest that affected boxes may be used in a slightly different way, such that the path that would preserve the “connected” info for Showcase and On Demand, never gets taken?

Why are some boxes affected and others not …

Maybe Humax have been using different components over time, depending upon price and availability – there might be a range of boxes with slightly different combinations of components – pure speculation, of course.

If I remember correctly, a number of posters in this thread have found the problem resolved after Freesat did some tweaking of their servers. So, not to do with hardware in those cases, apparently.

I was thinking that there seems to be a software fault which may manifest itself in different ways, or not at all, depending upon the exact combination of h/w.

As Grahame suggested, it would be interesting to see what happens if you swap your boxes around.
