If you’re planning to replace it, you might as well try a reformat of the HD.
I would if I could. But I don’t seem to have the options available to do that.
I have done this:
Go to settings using the Home button
Select System Settings
Select Storage – This says “Connect a USB ard drive HDD to the box to be able to record programmes and pause live TV. You can also attach a USB storage device to view your own media e.g. videos phone and music.
I can however do a factory reset – which I guess is the option you’re suggesting?
The Storage option doesn’t give allow to select an HDD and/or a disk format option
Would that be somewhere else?

InactivePress Settings on the remote.

Nothing happens when I press OK – and no further options. I get a message on screen – Connect a USB Hard drive (HDD) to the box to be able to record programmes and pause live TV. You can also attach a USB storage device to view your own media such as videos, photos and music.
I’ve never connected to this before and have always been able to record programmes and pause live TV.

Sounds like the HD has failed.
Would it be worthwhile trying to plug in a USB? Or a spare hard drive?

InactiveHi SSThing, have you tried turning box off for say 30 minutes & then trying again, worth a try, but make sure that your recording schedule don’t have a recording that has started up as this will also not allow you access to format HD. Just have a look at schedule in planned list via Recordings first. Hope you are able to fix it. If all else fails you will need a replacement drive.

I turned the TV and box off at the mains overnight and have also just tried holding down the power button on the box for 15 seconds and starting it up again.
Not sure what else I can try……..

Plugged in a hard drive and I got as far as Storage and it shows Portable – nothing else. As I have various backups on that, I don’t want to wipe it.
It’s not showing any other storage

If it isn’t full, try recording to it.

As far as I know you can’t record to an external hard drive.
