which chipsets in the USB WiFi adapter will work?
For the HDR-2000T and HDR-1800T RT3070 or RT5572N chipsets.
1 How much would it cost to add wifi to the 2000T?
2 The manual mentions a Samba Server (whatever that is) & also FTP Server to copy from the 5000T to a PC.
It could then be put onto a USB to play on the 2000T, couldn’t it?
Sorry if my technical know-how is not up to scratch!
Using ftp to transfer between the 5000T and the PC won’t be of much help as the .ts files are encrypted and ftp just copies the file. The file will be unplayable.
If I understand it correctly (I can’t get Samba to work in my configuration), if you run the Samba server you can mount the Humax disk as a network disk on your PC. You can then copy some of the files from the Humax to your PC. If you copy an SD programme it should be decrypted in the same way as copy to USB does.

Cheaper options are avaialable from China if you are prepared to wait. Alternatively a suitable pair of Powerline adapters such as https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5742734 are about £25 and usually easier to configure.

It is described as a Samba Server (a method of sharing files between devices using Linux (like the Humax) and Windows) but it doesn’t really function like a normal Samba server. If you have a Windows PC using Windows 8 or Windows 10 then it provides a simple way to download decrypted recordings to a PC that could be copied wherever you like.

If you get your network connection to work, the best way to watch programmes (SD) on your 2000T set up would be to run the DLNA server on the 5000T and use the 2000T DLNA client function view them. Without fiddling with USB sticks etc. That approach works on my HD FOX T2 (but only SD). (always assuming the 5000T is network connected too)

Agreed. It is precisely what I suggested in post #24.
Dongle just arrived today.(ordered it the same day as suggested!)
Now, how do I transmit programs from the 5000 to the 2000? ( I have configured WLAN on the 5000, & configured wi-fi on the 2000. I can’t see any mention of 2000T DLNA client function anywhere.
incidentally, the 5000 may have to be returned, as it wouldn’t switch on for about 10 minutes this morning. Neither the controller or the button on top would switch it on.

On the FVP: Red F button, Settings> Advanced settings> Server management Turn on the Network server and set a range of times of day when you might want to access recordings.
On the HDR-2000: Media button> Blue button (labelled storage)> Select Network> Select the FVP> Select recordings and away you go. The next time you go into Media if you want to play something from the hard drive on the HDR-2000T you will need to press blue button again and select HDD.
I can’t see any mention of 2000T DLNA client function anywhere.
In my HDR-2000T manual it is on page 32 in the Media List section.

On the 2000, there was no mention of network. I had removed the dongle then inserted it again previously. Maybe I have to set it up every it is inserted?
Anyway, when I touched the 2000 I got an electric shock! Didn’t get a shock the second time that I touched it though.
On the Samsung TV (that is connected to the 2000) however, it shows the 5000 & I was able to play a program that I recorded last night.

Have you checked that the volume on the Humax HDR-2000T remote is set at maximum? How is it connected to the TV (HDMI or SCART)?

What part of the Humax did you touch to get a shock? Have a look under WiFi settings with the dongle plugged in. Try using BBC iPlayer if that works then the Humax is connected to the Internet.

Fixed the volume. Checked it out in another room with different leads, & it worked!
It was the HDMI lead faulty.
It was the top rh side of the 2000 that I got the shock. Probably only 12v. Never happened before.
It’s recording a program for my wife now, so I will have a go later.
There is always the Samsung tv route, if the dongle is unsuccessful. the Humax controller is much easier to use though.

You shouldn’t have got a shock from the Humax at all! It couldn’t have been more than 12V unless your plug transformer is faulty. Even then that would have fried your Humax. Two possibilities come to mind. 1) Static electricity. You managed to charge yourself up somehow and discharged when you touched the box; or 2) I’ve had a minor shock off USB connectors before. Don’t know how, but it has happened.
Static discharge is my guess if it has not happened again. A fault condition would be ‘repeatable’
I think you are correct about the static on my clothing.
I thought that I had my wi-fi problem sorted when I got a list of my recorded 5000 programs on the 2000. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t play. Very halting, no continuous sound, then frozen for a few minutes. Couldn’t do anything.
Should I send the dongle back?
