A bit confused, did you buy the scart adaptor with a in/out switch ? If so you just need 3 RCA phono cables which you can buy virtually anywhere.

Should be OK provided you have switch in the right position. Plug it into your TV and try the switch to see if you can get a picture.

Have you got a test meter of any description you can use to check continuity ?

I think I spoke to soon, turned the upstairs tv off when I went out then back on when I got home, picked something to watch, saw the picture, heard the sound then saw a message on the to saying hdcp not valid, AV blocked, and all I get is a black screen but can hear the audio. The main tv in the living is fine, any ideas thanks

Yes, it’s an issue with the latest firmware.
