Note the only difference is the last digits, the rest is down to the router.

You have been told twice already;click on “Diagnostics” and then “Hard drive”. Please try it rather than asking endless questions.

To access the diagnostics you will need to click on the diagnostics icon. It is the icon labelled ‘diagnostics’.
Try it! It is a lot easier to do rather than theories about.

No it is not different. To access the diagnostics you would also need to to click on the diagnostics icon.
Try it!
Once in the diagnostics menu the relevant on screen ‘button’ to click on is labelled ‘Hard Disk’.
Once you are in there look on your screen for the ‘raw value’ numbers listed against ‘Reallocated_Sector_Ct’ ‘Current_Pending_Sector’ and ‘Offline_UnCorrectable’. Ideally these would all be 0.

InactiveJust tried it, using the lead that connected their yourview box to the router (just swapped at the back of the boxes) it had ip address on the configure lan menu on t2. That ip address did not work in my browser. Clicked on apply settings on the t2 configure lan and a new ip address was generated…also gateway ip address appeared. So tried the new ip address in the browser on my phone and nothing. It just says unavailable. Have i got it plugged in wrong?

ParticipantMost likely means you haven’t installed the Custom Firmware in the first place, or it’s been removed, or your phone wasn’t connected to your friends WiFi network.
Did you download the software and copy it to a usb stick ?
Did you then follow the instructions to upload it to your box from a usb memory stick ?
Did you log your phone into your friends WiFi Router ?
Did you try the address on your friends PC browser, which will already have be connected to the network ?
The whole idea is to simply download the full software to your box. The simplest way is to use your friends PC/Mac or whatever he uses. This is by far the best option, A phone screen isn’t exactly the best experience to install the full interface.
Without this there’s no way a browser will recognise the address. It’s not accessible outside the local network.
If you did all this, you probably need to re-install from scratch.

InactiveGot it to work using laptop. Downloaded full web interface. Rebooted etc. Got a warning message saying: hardware problems with internal hard disk on this device.
Disk pending sector count is 2
Disk offline sector count is 2
Ran hard disk diagnostic.
5 reallocated sector count raw value 0
9 power on hours raw value 15722 ( hence not a new drive??)
197 current pending sector raw value 2
198 offline uncorrectable raw value 2
So i guess that they didnt change the hdd or put an old crappy one in??

They seem to have just formatted the hard disk (hence the undisturbed seal). E-mail Richer Sounds with a link to this thread. The boss often follows forum threads like this. I wouldn’t be surprised if he responded personally (If he values the reputation of the company he should). Frankly they need to change whoever does their warranty repairs. As already said it’s a very simple job to fit a new hard disk and it only takes 10 minutes or so.

InactiveThe reallocated sectors are fine. It is the entries 197 and 198 that are the problem. You could telnet in, boot into maintenance mode and run fixdisk. That should sort out those sectors and may make your unit run better. It may be a temporary fix though as the drive is quite elderly.

InactiveThanks everyone for your help. Will be phoning richer sounds to “advise” them of the situation (presumably they got charged for fitting a new hdd??!!!) Will see what the customer service desk has to say and give the link to this thread so they can read it for themselves! Many thanks to you all
As for the telnet….a bit beyond me with my limited computer know how….managing to get the ip address bit was problematic enough!! Lol

Fifteen thousand power on hours is getting on for two years if the box was on continuously and more like four to five years of typical eight hours a day usage; they definitely didn’t fit a new hard drive. The other data doesn’t look too bad and the drive might be recoverable for now but in your situation I would press for the new hard drive that you were lead to believe had been fitted.

InactiveYeah the box was on a lot as my tv does not have full hd tuner and the picture/sound is much better on hd channels. Will be phoning them and letting them know what the situation is!

InactiveI would imagine that Richer would be interested. Your hard drive has clearly not been replaced: the smart data is pretty compelling. If their service agent has charged them for a hard disk replacement they have not done, the agent is effectively defrauding Richer.

InactiveThats what I was thinking. The job sheet clearly states replaced hdd and updated software (they put the custom firmware on it but without the web interface…or got rid of that after they had “repaired” it.) I think the boss would like to know about this so will be phoning and writing with a copy of the job sheet so he can see for himself. Will take the box back and make sure to let them know that they can check for themselves that the work hasnt been done by using the web interface etc. Will post on here as and when stuff happens. Thanks again everyone, you helped me a great deal and i learned some useful stuff..which is probably why I asked so many questions!
