Inactiveeach multiplex eg (BBC1, ITV, ITV3, Pick, 4Music) and use the Signal detection menu to check that it is coming from the correct multiplex.
thanks for the quick reply Martin, however …
sorry, this might be really obvious but, unfortunately, not to me.
how do i know which tv/radio stations come from a particular mux?
i’ve checked all the stations you mentioned and they are correct.
that leaves me with channels 31, 56 & 57 (com7 hd, L-man & G-man)
the first of which, i assume, is hd so not for me.

I presume that your question is from an interest perspective. You don’t really need to know anymore than you already do as you know the frequency numbers and Martin has provided an example set of channels that covers all the relevent non-HD/non-local frequencies.
This will show which channel is in which multiplex.
http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/industry/Channels/channel_listings
By putting in your postcode on that link you will be given enough detail to relate each mux names to one of your transmitter’s frequencies.

actually it’s a little more than just interest …
i can see from the digitaluk site (for my addy) that winter hill also transmits (i.e. as well as the channels i have indentified) on a mux called “L-man”. however, i can’t find this mux on the channel listing page.
[joke]
have i discovered a classified CIA transmitter & should i seriously consider fleeing to moscow in exile with ed snowden ?

L-MAN is only transmitted at 2kW power as opposed to the main multiplexes which are at 100kW. Let us know if you find out what it carries.

ParticipantAny Mux with the L- prefix is the MUX for local TV, so L-LON is the London local MUX hosting ESTV’s London Live channel on LCN 8

If you’ve got channels in the 800 range of channel numbers then you do need to do a Manual Search and that should cure your problems.
Manual Search Instructions.
The reason for doing a Manual Search is to target the six (five after DSO) multiplexes coming only from your preferred transmitter. The UHF channel numbers for your six/five multiplexes (digital channels) from your preferred transmitter can be obtained from the digitaluk web-site, enter your post code, house number and also tick the “Detailed view” box. Your UHF channel numbers are in the grey columns in the Coverage prediction section, ignore the BBC B multiplex (HD channels). The compass bearing for the available transmitters at your address are also shown on the page so you can check to see which transmitter your aerial is actually pointing at. You should only use the transmitter that your aerial is pointing at.
First you need to delete all existing channels.
Menu > Edit Channels > Edit Channel Lists > Password (0000) and delete all channels, note there is a Select All button. If you were on a TV channel before going into the menu then TV channels will be listed first, delete them all. Go to Group, select Radio and delete all the radio channels. Press Exit on the remote control and when invited save all the changes.
You will now get a message saying No channels are available……, press OK. You should now be taken to the Installation menu, choose Manual Search. Select the first UHF channel number obtained from the digitaluk web-site for Channel (actually the order doesn’t matter) and press Search. When the search completes, Save. Select the next UHF channel number for Channel and press Search…..Save. Repeat this for all six/five UHF channel numbers and to finish press the Exit button. You will now find all your Freeview channels on their correct channel numbers, good luck.
Hi – have followed these instructions and am still missing multiple channels. For two of the UHF numbers I am referred to by the digitaluk website, it either isn’t finding channels, or it finds them briefly and then they drop out. It is showing a slightly slower signal strength for these channels (in the 60% range, rather than high 70%s for the ‘good’ UHF numbers) and little or no quality. I’m only 4 miles from the Crystal Palace transmitter so there shouldn’t be a problem with signal strength. Problem started a couple of weeks ago (helpfully during the Rugby World Cup when I couldn’t get ITV). Any ideas? I’ve tried Manual Searches on all possible UHF numbers and several total reboots but no joy.

So which multiplex channels are giving problems?

My instructions clearly say ‘ignore BBC B’ as this multiplex carries the HD channels which the 9xx0 machines dont understand. I suggest you carefully reread my instructions and have another go before we go any further. Also tell us what machine you’ve got?
