The only way I have found, using FileZilla or File Explorer, to play on a PC, is to set the HD encrypted files to SD quality on the Aura.

Have not found a way of moving files from PC to external HD on the Aura, without removing HD from Aura. FileZilla works well, moving files from PC to internal HD on Aura.

I can see your problem. afaik you can’t play HD files on another device, not even another Aura. For that reason I record everything that I may need to download in SD

I’ve downloaded FileZilla but cannot get it to configure properly using the wizard. First of all I had trouble working out the Router’s External IP Address, then when that was accepted the wizard bombed out with an Unexpected Reply Error:-

    Response: 200 PORT command successful

    LIST

    Response: 150 opening data connection

Response: 503 Failure of data connection.

    Server sent unexpected reply.

    Connection closed

Unhelpfully, the wizard then says “If you get any errors, your configuration is not correct.”

What’s the best way to proceed?

Why are you using the routers external IP address? I would have expected the IP address to use would be the IP address of the Aura.

Aura appears to encrypt anything recorded on a dvb-t2 multiple, and not encrypt on dvb-t. I recorded a sd program on a dvb-t2 multiplex and it was encrypted, and when I tried a hd program on a dvb-t multiplex (RTE on Saorview) it wasn’t encoded.

Agreed. ASAIK HD recordings are locked to the device they were recorded on by DRM Digital Rights Management and cannot be played on any other device … so, if your Aura fails you effectively lose every HD recording even though the disc is fine.

I tried 192.168.1.193 which is the Aura IP address on my router, but the FileZilla wizard stills tells me it’s the wrong external IP address.

What exactly is the Filezilla error message please?

This is the error message returned by the wizard:

    Connecting to probe.filezilla-project.org

Connection established, waiting for welcome message.

Response: 220 FZ router and firewall tester ready

    USER FileZilla

    Response: 331 Give any password.

    PASS 3.56.2

    Response: 230 logged on.

Checking for correct external IP address

    IP 192.168.1.193 bjc-bgi-b-bjd

Response: 510 Mismatch. Your IP is 5.81.64.245, f-ib-ge-cef

    Wrong external IP address

    Connection closed

If I use the IP address 5.81.64.245 as suggested above, I get the following:

    Connecting to probe.filezilla-project.org

Connection established, waiting for welcome message.

Response: 220 FZ router and firewall tester ready

    USER FileZilla

    Response: 331 Give any password.

    PASS 3.56.2

    Response: 230 logged on.

Checking for correct external IP address

    IP 5.81.64.245 f-ib-ge-cef

    Response: 200 OK

    PREP 55384

Response: 200 Using port 55384, data token 1474932577

    PORT 5,81,64,245,216,88

    Response: 200 PORT command successful

    LIST

    Response: 150 opening data connection

Response: 503 Failure of data connection.

    Server sent unexpected reply.

    Connection closed

Why are you using the network configuration wizard? Are you trying to set up access from outside your home network? Normally, for access from within your home network, you would use site manager to enter the ftp server details.

You can find the IP address of your Aura box by going to settings, open Record & Share and scroll down to FTP Address.

Mine is 192.168.0.64 as per the attached pic.

Because when I ran FileZilla for the first time it told me it had to be configured and to use the wizard to do so.

And no, I don’t need access from outside my home network.

Edit: Site Manager only lets me create a New Site or a New Folder, everything else is greyed out.

I’ve followed the Help link to the Network Configuration Wiki but most of the descriptions are beyond my comprehension – I need the Janet & John version!

You want to create a New Site in Site Manager.

    Protocol: FTP

Host: internal ip address of Aura

    Port:2323

Encryption: use explicit FTP over TLS if available

    Login Type: Normal

    User: aura

Password: PIN (0000 is the default)

    Connect

    @Mars

Thanks for the detail. I think I’m nearly there, but getting the following error message:

    Status: Connecting to 192.168.1.193:2323…

Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message…

Status: Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.

Error: Connection attempt interrupted by user

Is it the Aura that’s insecure, or my BT Smart Hub 2?
