InactiveHi Graham, firstly many thanks for your comprehensive reply and answers. I have gone through the chart like you advised and conclude the following:
BAND: LBH Polarisation: H Result 99.9% Okay. A couple of exceptions:
Channel 107 BBC Four HD Frequency 11023 not available however Channel 200 BBC NEWS HD on the same frequency was available?
Channel 139 Horror+1 on frequency 11389, Channel 691 DAYSTAR TV HD on frequency 11612 not available.
Band: LBV Polarisation: V Not available
Band: HBV Polarisation: V Okay
Does the above now identify me issue?
Thanks again and regards.

ParticipantBBC Four HD is part time, the fact that you got the message indicates that had it been broadcasting you could have watched it.
Total loss of all low band vertical yet the few high band vertical channels are present seems to suggest it’s your lnb has had it. Changing it is easy provided your dish is easy to get at.
Most and I guess yourself have sky-dishes of varying ages. Reason they are made in the millions and the dishes and lnb’s to fit them are very cheap especially on e-bay.
Also a guess you are likely to have a 4 output quad lnb.
The latest is the MK4 dish that has a different lnb fitting to the earlier dishes. The lnb is the same just the way it fits to the dish arm is different. A photograph of the lnb end of the arm would help to identify. In any case a lnb bought from e-bay with a legacy adaptor should fit all but the ancient MK1 dish. If you can’t safely get at the dish, you need someone who can.

InactiveHi Graham I will take a picture and post it to you tomorrow (Monday). You are right I have an old Sky dish with 4 outputs. If you could point me to a suitable replacement on Ebay (after seeing my unit) that would be perfect. Is it easy to remove/replace the old unit? I wonder how easily it will come off after so long being outisde in the elements? I’m wondering if forcing anything could mess up the positioning and subsequent replacement?
Thanks again.
Regards.

No picture. The lnb is normally secured with a pull out pin. Once the pin is removed and the f connectors are unscrewed it just pulls off the end of the lnb arm.
Unless the dish is really ancient this one should fit.
These might help

Looks like a MK3. The lnb listed when fitted to the legacy adapter should fit. You might want to optimise the alignment slightly which is easy with the help of a friend if you dont get 100% signal and quality on a UK spot beam transponder like say BBC 1 HD. Post if you want instructions. There are 4 adjustments you can make.
Briefly
Focus moving the lnb back and forward in the collar
Azimuth – Direction the dish points
Elevation – The vertical angle of the dish
Skew – twist of the lnb – not critical note the existing lnb angle which is not vertical.
I recommend greasing the f connectors using silicone grease and using lnb boots – Easier than amalgamating tape.

InactiveOkay Graham i will order the unit you recommended on Ebay, plus the other bits and pieces. Just to clarify if I can undo the three cables then the unit left on the arm will be superfluous and if damaged when removing won’t matter as long as the arm from the dish is okay? Also is there any protocol for which ports the three cables are attached to when I fit the new one?
Thanks again, you have been extremely helpful.

The unit is the lnb. Yes it goes in the dustbin, or the greener metals recyling skip at your local waste disposal site

You can use any of the outputs they are all identical. Just use the ones easiest to tighten the 11mm f connector nuts. Check the coax carefully for any sign of water ingress or corrosion of the screen and centre core. If the f connectors are screw on type you can screw them off and clean up the connectors.
You may need to remove them anyway to fit the boots onto the cable.

InactiveHello Graham, The unit and silicone arrived promptly and today I exchanged it on the dish. I was able to fit the new unit using the existing bracket, the ones that arrived with the unit were not compatible with the arm I have. Anyway the important news is that all channels back and working (so far)!
Thank you very much for holding my hand through this problem and solution. I would probably have been frightened off an called an engineer had the help provided not been so clear and comprehensive.
Thanks again. Barry
