I believe my box is kaput. Off to Currys tomorrow to buy a Freesat UHD 4X I think.
I very much doubt that your box is kaput. If it is it is an unusual fault.
I would at least try creating an address reservation on your router for the HDR-1100S MAC address. Then turn off DHCP for now. Now on the HDR-1100S go to network settings and reselect connect automatically. It takes a while to time out. It will then offer manual settings enter the IP address that you have reserved together with the subect mask 255.255.255.0 and your routers LAN address as the gateway and DNS server.
You can then reenable DHCP on the router.
You should now be able to ping the HDR-1100S from your LAN and it should make on-demand available.
Some users have had problems with using their router as DNS and have used 4.4.4.4 or 8.8.8.8 instead (Google DNS).
If you have a UHD TV with HDR support I would avoid the freesat Arris unit for now.
