OK Back on the case and I believe I have found the answer. Although the box said it was connected to the internet, in fact it wasn’t. I set the connection type to automatic (I had had to connect manually, originally) and rebooted the router and now it all seems to be working. Another clue I may have missed earlier was that the On Demand services were not available either, and now they are. If the Search fails again, the internet connection will be the first thing to check.
Update: It’s been on and off and into and out of different functions and it is still working – whoopee!
