I went for a Panasonic DMR-HWT130 but if you want FreeviewPlay included the DMR-HWT150 or 250 will give you that. I only want my PVR to record TV programmes and the Panasonic is rock solid reliable at doing that. I do catch-up streaming with a Roku device which is also excellent so don’t need FreeviewPlay.

If you don’t need the catchup players an HDR-1800T or HDR-2000T might be a reasonable choice. A few quirks but nothing too serious. If you want the catchup players then a Humax FVP-5000T is the only Humax option. Be warned this is a marmite PVR; some people love it, some people hate it. The FVP has a full range of catchup players but currently there are problems with both the ITV and My5 players and Humax seem to be in no hurry to fix the problems. Also the user interface is completely different, slower to respond than earlier boxes and behaves rather inconsistently. It is reasonably reliable at recording and will record up to 4 channels at once. I use one because it handles sub-titles impeccably (on the earlier boxes they can get wildly out of synch) and it doesn’t suffer with an odd HDMI issue causing momentary losses of sound when an HDR-FOX T2 is connected to my LG TV.

There are also Freeview PVRs from Manhattan but I have no personal experience and the Panasonics that Biggles has mentioned.
