Quote:With both units on and the 5000T selected on the tv input, going into the Media section brings up the 4000T in the media list and the files on it are accessible and will play.Doing this the other way round, the Media section on the 4000T doesn’t show the 5000T in the list so no access to the files.
This seems strange to me. AFAIK both boxes run the same software. Indeed my 5000T thinks it is a 4000T. (Network check for software update). If it works one way, why not the other? Indeed if Graham T is correct that the server box does the decryption – which I guess it must because the encryption key is hard coded into server. Why can one not play 5000T recordings on a FOX-T2 over DLNA as the source server would decrypt the files when playing. I know this has been discussed many time here and elsewhere but it would be handy to know what is possible and what is not.
The server doesn’t do the decryption it passes the required key to the client allowing viewing of the encrypted stream.

Is it possible that the media server is not running on the 5000T? I offer that suggestion as you say that you can’t see the device – rather than that you can’t see files on the device. I guess you know how to control the media server from settings – there is a function there to check that the server is running correctly

So are there any flavours of the custom software for FOX-T2 that enable DTCP functionality? I have trawled the HummyTV forum in all its detail but missed any obvious detail in this respect. I would be very interested to know.

InactiveSpot on Graham, in my haste to insall the 5000T I didn’t enable the server. With it switched on, both machines will find and play HD video files from the other.

You don’t need any custom firmware for a pair of HDR-FOX-T2’s to view each others recordings when both are connected to the same network. HD and SD recordings on either box can be viewed on the other using the standard Humax Firmware.
Check your PM’s

Is the HD FOX-T2 DTCP compliant – and can one play HD recordings from a HDR on a HD? If so then I can only assume that the encryption schemes differ between the older generation boxes and the newer ones as I can play SD files from FVP to HD FOX but not HD as noted elsewhere.

Yes you can.

My guess is that it is a difference in the DCTP versions.

InactiveI have just had my 4000 die, and I had a load of films copied to an external HDD. I’ve got a new replacement 5000, and am rather disappointed to find that all the HD rather than SD films I have on the disc won’t now play on the new machine. I presume from the above discussion there’s no way round this?
