InactiveI had to manually select upgrade Software, OTA, on both my 4000T’s
Initial impression…
1) The background to the EPG can now be set to black, no annoying background images
2) The Recordings button on my 5000T remote, supplied with my recent 4000T, now works
3) I like the menus laid out across the top of the screen, much better
Now, a fun day ahead checking it all out !!
EXTRA:
This could be a fantastic option.
Enabling something called a Samba Server, it looks like you can download recorded programmes to a PC, though whether it would work with Apple OSX ?
Or perhaps it’s only for self loaded Videos ?
I also like the multiple line LIST option for programmes, either recorded or scheduled, much better, many more items per page.

ModeratorYou can see what the differences were between the 4000 and 5000T vis this FAQ:

Mine (4000) got updated overnight.
Unfortunately some of the functionality has been removed.
When you press the OK button you get some information about what is on the current channel, and you can select ‘blue’ to see the channel list. What you can no longer do is find out what is on later either on the current channel or any others, although you can see what is currently being broadcast on these. It’s the right arrow functionality that is missing.
OK, right on current channel works for me.
OK, it does for me as long as I don’t do it via ‘blue’ for channel list
Also if you press left you can see what you have missed!

I can certainly see more items in the schedule than I could previously, 10 as opposed to almost 5, which is far better, but the List View in recordings is showing 9 items, which is 3 fewer than the 12 the old Grid displayed.
The new Grid view now shows 16 recordings, 4 more than the old Grid and 7 more than the new List, so despite my numerous requests in the past for a list view, I am going to stick with the new, improved Grid.

InactiveSo basically I could have saved myself a few quid by buying a 4000T rather than a 5000T now that the new firmware is out.
I assume that’s right since both boxes have the same hardware and now, in effect, run the same firmware.
Feeling a bit peeved!

InactiveI would be feeling pretty peeved too if I was in your shoes.
I much prefer the look of the 4000 too and I’m certainly not bothered by the multi coloured LEDs

InactiveI am sorry to hear that you feel peeved chaps, but can I put the other side of the coin? I, along with quite a few others, was part of the Beta testing group for the software as first published, and gradually developed, for the 4000T and what you see on your 4000T after this update and your 5000T from scratch is the fruit of that lengthy effort. We all now have, IMHO, a first class piece of kit and I for one am delighted to see that Humax have seen fit to make the new version available to 4000T users. R-

InactiveI am generally happy with the 5000T as a machine (apart from the sluggishness) but if, as you seem to indicate, Humax were always going to release this firmware on the 4000T then releasing a ‘New’ box is a bit naughty really isn’t it? Especially since it costs more but now doesn’t really offer any better functionality.

I am not privvy to Humax development plans and had no knowledge that they were “always going to release the firmware on the 4000T”. I am just pleased they did. R-

InactiveI think it needs a massive speed boost and added usability features to be able to call it a first class piece of kit IMHO. Its a huge improvement to when the 4000 was first released though.
I live in hope for a much more feature rich and speedy machine if and when they release a FVP-6000

InactiveJust make sure you don’t buy the 6000t until you are sure they won’t make the 5000t just as good 😆

InactiveWhatever your Freeview HD model, be grateful.
Channel 4 will be ceasing HD transmission on Freesat w.e.f. Thursday 22nd February.
The Freesat EPG is already empty from that date.
I use both my 4000T’s as backup for Freesat transmissions, plus the 3 tuners takes care of any overflow requirement on my twin tuner Freesat models.
If I have to omit anything, it will always be a BBC programme, the BBC iPlayer is now so good, and in HD, and with NO adverts.
My latest 4000T comes with wifi internet connection, which is ideal for use in the bedroom, as extra backup.
Since I upgraded the software on both 4000T’s earlier today, I have had no problems at all, it is indeed an improvement on the previous software, in my case.
As mentioned above, the grid display is quite good too, I will alternate between List & Grid view until I decide the best for myself.
The only thing I miss, compared to Freesat, unless I’ve not found it yet, is the ability to manually set programme recording times, useful for regional news bulletins optouts.
