InactiveDino, thanks for replying, yes my ip address is more like \192.168.1.6media when i try to connect, I get error msg network path could not be found.
My PC workgroup is now set to WORKGROUP as per Humax box.
In the past I have successfully connected to a samba network with a device being connected to the router next to my PC but cannot connect this time, do I need to setup something else on the network or chge any humax settings, it is set to DHCP on the box?

InactiveIf you click ‘Start’ then ‘Run’ and type
cmd
then click ‘ok’ , Windows should open a console display. In there type
ping Foxsat-HDR
and press return. You should see a ‘Reply from ….’ message 4 times and some stats.
If this is ok, the PC knows about the HDR and if you then click ‘Start’ then ‘Run’ and type
\foxsat-hdr
It should open an explorer view of the HDR.
Try that and let us know

InactiveThanks Dino, but tried pinging but get “Ping request could not find host Foxsat-HDR. Please check the name and try again.”
Dino, the foxsat is connected to a different modem router in my lounge so is it likely that this would cause a problem? The modem router in my lounge feeds broadband to the router in my bedroom which my pc is connected to.

From what I read earlier (about you confirming Samba is running), you are using the PC and Firefox upstairs to browse the Web Interface of the HDR downstairs.
Is this correct ? If so, then that means there is a network connection between the PC and the HDR over whatever infrastructure you have using IP.
Assuming it is, then IP is working ok and we should be able to get Samba working.
From the Firefox view, can you say what the address of the HDR is?
It should show in the address box of firefox.

InactiveYou can also see the ip on the Humax U.I. – Setup > Diag > Network.
What version of Windows do you have?

InactiveOP is ‘using firefox browser v14.0.1, windows xp home media centre edition service pack 3’

InactiveDino, the ip address of the box is 192.168.1.2
REPASSAC, I have windows xp SP3
August 21, 2012 at 2:36 pm #34761Anonymous
InactiveOK, try
\192.168.1.2
See if that opens a window.

InactiveDino, did you mean try it as a network mapping? it didn’t work, I can access the web interface and settings fine using that ip but nothing else
August 21, 2012 at 2:41 pm #34763Anonymous
InactiveNo, I meant from ‘start’ ‘run’ then type in the window, but mapping is the same.
Are you sure Samba is running on the HDR ?
Check under ‘Service Management’

Inactiveok tried it as a dos cmd but \192.168.1.2 is not recognised as a command or did you mean to ping it? Service management shows samba as “ON” for auto startup and status
August 21, 2012 at 2:47 pm #34765Anonymous
InactiveNo, I didn’t mean from a DOS prompt, just ‘start’ ‘run’ and then type \192.168.1.2 directly into the window and click ok.

Inactive
\192.168.1.2
The network path was not found.

InactiveStrange, it almost seems like Samba isn’t running on the HDR. Try using the Web browser and Service Management to stop and restart it. (just click once on the blue ‘ON’ under the status column for Samba. It should slide to ‘OFF’ and you get a message saying
‘Stopping Samba….. done’
Give it a moment, then click on ‘OFF’ and it should slide to the blue ‘ON’ with a message saying
‘Starting Samba…. done’
Then try ‘start’ ‘run’ and put
\192.168.1.2
into the box and click ok.

InactiveTime to check firewall settings. XP – don’t remember that far back – what security software are you running?
Confirm ping 192.168.1.2 responds OK
