InactiveFor information. I sourced a new Seagate ST3500312CS – same model as existing HDD.
Before I put it in the Humax I connected it to my desktop and Chromebook using my new USB Sata cable. Was not recognised . I put the new drive in my Humax and no request to format hard drive – same problems as before 😥
Conclusions.
1. The usb sata cable I obtained is the wrong spec or faulty. This is what I got
http://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B07L5DK7C5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
2. The problem with the Humax is the resistor issue therefore it is now only of use as a Freesat receiver.
3. I now have two back-up HDD’s for my Foxsat HDR

InactivePresumably you did connect the 12V supply as well as the USB connector?

InactiveYes using an adaptor I have – Output 12v 200mA. Both new and old drives circuit boards felt warm but could not detect disc spinning.

InactiveMotor is 12V and from Seagate spec
Startup current 12V-peak (typical) 2.0A Hmmm.
If the HDD is not mounted, when it is running and you try to twist it, you will feel a strong gyroscopic effect (resistance to twist) You can’t miss it.

What is the part number (the bit after P/N on the drive label)? There are an awful lot of variants and some are compatible and some are not.

An 9GW132-012 will have been produced for a Sky box and is locked at 1.5Gb/s (SATA I). Your original drive will have been SATA II 3.0Gb/s. It is known that SATA I drives will not work in various Humax models and I am guessing we can add HDR 1000 to the list.

InactiveThanks for the reply. That is annoying. This is the link to where I sourced the replacement http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002CMOH26/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Clearly indicates Sata 3.0 Gb/s or am I missing something?

My understanding is that the design of the ST3500312CS is capable of 3.0 Gb/s but for some reason drives intended for Sky boxes were set to 1.5 Gb/s and no one has found a way of changing that. Contact the seller and discuss it with them, maybe not all the drives they have are from old Sky boxes.

InactiveThanks for the replies. Re power supply adaptor for USB/SATA cable (Trev) is 2.0 A absolutely necessary and as the adapter I used was 12v 200mA is this why the drives are not being recognised on my desktop? I can hear a ticking sound bit certainly no gyroscopic effect when holding the drives.
Martin – thanks I will contact the seller. However, even if the new drive I have is limited to 1.5Gb/s would I not still see it as storage on my desktop with the USB/SATA connector unless 12v/2.0A is a must.
TH problem remains that unless I can 100% identify that the old (and new) hard drives are OK I cannot be sure that the original problem is attributed to the “resistor” or other mother board issues and declare my 1000s only suitable as a receiver.

InactiveUpdate. Found a 12v/1.0A adaptor which results in old drive being visible on desktop together with all the files. So I can only conclude the problem is not the hard drive but the main board – is that a fair assumption??
Next to wait for the Arris HDR!!
August 11, 2020 at 6:39 pm #87505Anonymous
InactiveThink you are probably correct, however I would have not expected the 1%, but the fit a hard drive.
I surmise that the resistor was out of spec but sill failing.
What is your r=take on the arris, wait and see?

Inactivei’ve been watching this topic. and having the same problem with my HDR 1000S.When the HDD was taken out to test it did not show when hooked up to the pc. But when i looked in disk management it was there. and it was showing no bad sectors . so i’ve stripped it down to the motherboard. by the way everything else works ok , the disk does spin up, just not reading. still can be used to watch all channels. i’m considering taking the caps out to test, although none of them are blown .Does anybody know a link for the schematic?
August 13, 2020 at 2:26 pm #87507Anonymous
InactiveThe symptom of the failed resistor shows as not seeing the hard disk. Before this stage other results can be seen. However there is an intermittent software bug that shows as no recordings, which again appear after a restart or power cycle.
I don’t believe that any of the board versions schematics have been ever made public.

Have you considered the option of getting it repaired see https://www.digirepairs.co.uk/product/repair-booking-humax-freesat-plus-freeview-plus-youview-plus-box-repairs-2/
If you went this route you could discreetly mark components and hopefully discover what has been changed.
