The reason I didn’t try it before is that I usually use a Logitech rechargeable but I had tried that and the original HUmax.
Rechargeable batteries are not a good idea in remotes as the voltage isn’t high enough for reliable operation. Does the Humax respond to the power button on the top of the case?

My 5000T works perfectly (apart from its appalling slowness). I have “Automatic Power Down” and “Power Saving Mode” turned off, although I don’t know if that makes any difference.
I just turn it off with the remote at about 4 AM every night and it always starts recording news bulletins from 8 AM onwards, while I’m still asleep.
What happens if you don’t physically use the box for a few days to a week?
Turning off power saving mode makes no difference unless you use the rf loopthrough.

InactiveThe only thing I can suggest now is to get it going any way you can and do a makers reset. You will loose any recorded programmes it has on its disc.It is a computer we all know how good they are sometimes!!!Try to destroy its memory.
The lights on my 5000 show red all the time when switched on,it shows blue when switched on/in use the purple colour talked about on this forum is a mix of red light(power on)and blue colour light (in use or just recording). It is not a purple light on my model.Just a mix of the two colours.
Good luck if all fails have a chat to Humax after Christmas/ new year, you are a paying customer after all is said and done.

Although the latest FVP-5000T does state that recordings will be lost according to other posts on myhumax.org, or even Humax support, this is not what happens in practice.

Humax Rerply
I want you to follow this exact set of instructions below. I am using sutton coldfield as the transmitter to test.
Please NOTE: System settings such as screen ratio will be reset and your schedule will be deleted but recorded programmes will be saved.
· Press the Home/Freeview play button on the remote
· Using the directional buttons move up and select Settings
· Select System Settings then Factory Default
· Choose Reset All Settings with the OK button
· Select ‘YES’
· Enter Password 0000
· The unit will restart, please allow up to 2 minutes for this to happen

InactiveHi Luke
thanks for your help, but I did this several times with the original box which only made a difference for a short time. It was the only suggestion that support ever came up with.
This is a replacement box which I have only had for a few weeks. Support have not responded to my requests for help so will be on the phone tomorrow looking for another replacement. Hopefully they will send me a new box which works. When they offered to replace the original I suggested they should not waste there, or my time unless they had a box that would work. Well they wasted my time.
JUst tried again. and it still won’t come on.

InactiveA bit of a shot in the dark, but Humax boxes have historically had problems when presented with an unreliable network connection, they seem to get caught in a loop trying to get the network going to the exclusion of all else. May be worth trying no connection and a direct (not powerline) wired connection to the internet router. Also seems odd to get the exact same fault on two boxes, are you sure Humax didn’t just send your original box back?

InactiveHi
Not the same box, they did an exchange when they delivered the replacement but only send a bare box. I suspect it is one someone else returned and they couldn’t find a problem. It is not exactly the same, it is worse. I have had the original for almost a year and tried to get my money back, but unfortunately it had just passed the 30 day refund.
The box is connected via ethernet to the router. It replaced a BT youview box (made by Humax) which worked without fault. I also have Humax Fox sat box on the same setup which although old and slow still works faultlessly.

InactiveI am on my second 5000t (500gb)- the first had to go back within 30 days. This box has behaved well on the whole, a few glitches but it’s tech so I know this can happen. If you don’t have any joy with Humax by email (a lot of people find they don’t reply for ages) give them a ring, they usually take a while to answer but when they do are very nice and try to help.

InactiveWhilst being far from the pinnacle of the HDR Fox-T2, you should be able to get basic functionality from your box, so it is looking like another return is required. At least Humax can’t fault your attempts to resolve the problem yourself. My only last thoughts are a couple of quirks I have noted whilst using my 4000T: Sometimes when I attempt to turn the box on with the remote nothing seems to happen, leading me to press the button again, effectively turning it back off. If I press once and wait it sometimes springs to life a good few seconds later. I also have sometimes found I can be viewing the Humax, but the remote is completely non-functional. I have to press the remote power button to get control back as it appears that the box is recording and therefore keeping the tv output on, whilst it also simultaneously thinks it is in standby. Hope you find a solution, but I suspect it will be with a new box.
