InactiveI assume your sharing network is “private” and you have not created a HomeGroup ? Also how are you connected to your Humax ?
Nope I can see that you have created a Homegroup. I hadn’t so I just created one to see what would happened, and the main difference is I got the options to share files etc, from this pC.
What I meant when I asked if you could browse, was with Internet Explorer or Firefox, can you connect with either of those to your Humax using XP.

InactiveI am connected to the humax with an RJ45 cable via an ethernet switch.
Is it possible to set up a ‘parallel’ private network outside a homegroup.

I don’t know about that. I am coming to the conclusion that I am able to do this because I have the custom firmware installed. I am not sure it’s available for the HDR-Fox-T2. Mine is a Foxsat-HDR. Perhaps someone with the same device and Win 8.1 can comment.

XP machine can access Humax disk through any browser I have tried no problem. And has been my normal method of loading home movies etc. to avoid disturbing viewing by having to use humax handset and usb.
Xp Machine can access the Users files on the win8 machine.

woodturner has told us that he doesn’t have custom firmware installed at which point I gave up commenting as I don’t believe what he is doing on XP is possible without the custom firmware.

InactiveI got confused because he said he could “browse” his Humax in XP. I understand now that he was using File Explorer to browse. not IE or FF.
As a matter of education is there custom firmware for his unit ?

I can assure you that I have not installed any custom firmware on the humax. It has only ever had automatic updates as transmitted.
I’ll try and get a screenshot of humax disk files on the XP machine.

I don’t think so; see post 6 in this thread.

Should have said FTP, not browse.

InactiveOK folks thanks for the efforts, bulb suddenly came on and I realise it’s an ftp function I had been using.
Have gained access on win8 machine, just need to configure shortcuts etc. to match my mental visualisation so that I don’t screw up file movements.
