InactiveI would ask Humax to replace it again. If they agree, and the third box exhibits the same behaviour, it surely must be something in the environment.

InactiveDid you change the codeset? I ask because units have, on occasions reverted back to the default set.
Also did you try the standby and volume keys – these seem to be priority serviced by the application and may indicate that is busy with a priority task, if so try leaving it for 15mins.

InactiveIf I have to replace it yet again, I would probably prefer to demand my money back and go elsewhere! However, I am starting to wonder if it has something to do with the hdmi selection. I regularly switch between an AppleTV and a NowTV box and perhaps the Humax box gets itself confused somehow. I have just rebooted it (after an hour disconnected from the mains) and its working perfectly again – for the time being.

InactiveIn response to Repassac, not sure what you mean by changing the codeset. Once it starts playing up, continually pressing a key, say Esc, eventually reacts, but everything is extremely slow. My solution has been to unplug, but I will wait next time to see if it corrects itself. However, this is not a satisfactory solution.

Re change codeset – if you don’t know what I mean then you did not.
Not sure what you mean by Esc (presume Exit or back).
My thought is that there may be an automatic repair process in progress. No idea if I am correct, but I do know that unplugging a PVR (and a PC) while it is writing to disk, is not a good idea if it can be avoided.
Should I be correct, then it may settle down when it has completed.

InactiveThanks for that. I’ll try to be a bit more patient and wait the next time it occurs (as I’m sure it will) to see what happens. And yes, I did mean the Exit key.

InactiveLocked up again, this time when a recording was paused. However, found that if the remote was held 10mm from the box, it reacted to a key press. I am sure the remote is OK, which would suggest that something is affecting the IR receiver sensitivity.

InactiveInteresting. Have not heard of similar before. You did remove the film from the panel?

InactiveYes.

InactiveIs there anything nearby that is maybe causing IR interference?
October 26, 2014 at 10:15 am #55900Anonymous
InactiveThat was my first thought, but I’m at a loss to identify anything. The box is next to the router and streaming boxes, but these are radio (WiFi) and should not affect IR signals. There absolutely nothing else around to cause IR interference. Also the Humax box will work perfectly for a few days (sometimes) then start playing up – either immediately after powering up, or in this case, while doing chase tv, ie. recording the program I am watching, then pausing the live channel for a few minutes.

InactiveI’ve had the occasional problem in the past where the sun was streaming through the window direct onto that shiny black box. The R/C was almost non-responsive until I closed the blinds, then all was immediately OK.

InactiveI’ve never done this myself, so I can’t vouch for it: get a cheap pair of sunglasses, take out one lens, and tape it over the IR receiver.

InactiveGood point, but this is not apply to my setup. Still convinced it is a software glitch. Have been looking at alternative manufacturers, but there seem to be very few freesat boxes around and those that are also seem to have a variety of stability issues. I am slowly reaching the conclusion that I should revert to my Sky box and pay them £10pm for the privilege of using the record function (ugh!!).

ModeratorI once had a problem with remote response to sky+, TV, Humax kit as well as Panasonic…..turned out to be the wireless router I was using in the same room. I moved the router a few inches and hey presto all kit now responding.
