I looked at a WiFi extender some time ago but even that wasn’t straight forward as one had then to start using a PIN to access it. With my smartphone, tablet etc. I just couldn’t be bothered with the hassle.

The hassle being to set up a PIN once?

I have every room in my house cabled with Ethernet cable, but obviously for phone and tablet I need a good spread of wi-fi. Being solid brick walls throughout the router wi-fi does not cut it, so I have three wireless access points dotted around to provide 100% good coverage. Plug the access point into the Ethernet, set up a PIN exactly the same as the router and you’re good to go. As I wander the house my phone/tablet auto-locks onto the strongest available single wherever I am. Same PIN method equally applies to wi-fi extenders, obviously without the cable input.

The Netgear access points, which include a four-way Ethernet switch, so one in three out, I got for around 28 Pounds each from Amazon.

Heavy initial investment in both DIY time and money, but perfect results. No dongle or powerline will beat it.

    Hi groovyoldwoman,

Hope I was able to help. It’s very frustrating, but this hopefully should be a temporary fix until they release reliable version (!)

The download is very very small & your USB stick should be ok. Just copy file from PC to USB stick & insert in front of humax, unplug & KEEP your finger on the down Channel button as previously mentioned. THe Humax does the rest for you. It will all appear to work ok, but worth then straight away doing a factory reset to “iron out any bugs” etc & to set up cleanly with software update. I wonder if they have got any jobs at Humax/Freesat? . . . . . Good luck if you try.

    Series recording problems.

Tried to set a series link for Glastonbury on BBC 3 or 2 HD, the select single/series option disappears as normal but no recording icon appears next to the programme and the guide is then completely locked up (i.e. won’t respond to the remote).

But the box doesn’t actually lockup as I could go to recordings etc, checked planned and no Glastonbury recordings found. I also gave the box plenty of time to compute but it still just locks up the guide and won’t set a series record for Glastonbury on either channel.

Gave up and set single recordings.

Looks like I will have to go back to the previous software version. 🙄 👿 🙄

That would be an odd thing to do. Why go to the trouble of selectively blocking some non-Humax dongles, while allowing others. It would be much easier to just block all non-Humax dongles.

More likely (it seems to me) some non-Humax dongles have been unintentionally affected by changes in the upgrade. Not deliberate, but perhaps unlikely to be reversed since only Humax dongles are officially supported.

I’m not sure what Humax have done; the problem could be unintentional. They probably wouldn’t selectively block some non-Humax dongles but not others. It is more likely that they would whitelist Humax dongles. However, since they have had Humax-badged dongles manufactured that have generic VID and PID values, values that are not uncommonly found in cheap, non-branded dongles, they would be effectively whitelisting these too.

    Rolling back won’t help.

The BBC have given all Glastonbury programmes the same series crid no matter which channel being broadcast on. This presents at least one conflict (I have only had a cursory glance) where 3 programmes on 3 channels at same time.

Same problem on freeview I think.

Yes that sounds a likely explanation.

OK thanks I’ll leave it as is and record single programmes. VERY stupid of the BBC.

It may well be as simple as you say. For me though I get a good signal throughout the house so don’t need anything extra for my phone and tablet.

Despite the good signal however I still don’t think WiFi cuts the mustard for streaming HD video. Another issue we have is the microwave always knocks the signal out and the wife always but always forgets and sets the plates to warm just at the wrong moment. 😡

Anyone getting reboots after this update?

My box has rebooted itself twice in the last half hour, just watching TV didn’t touch any buttons in between.

Out of interest can you also post the channel you were watching and time (incl. SD /HD and region is possible)

About time you went metric mate – the 2 kilo version is more of a heavyweight. :-)

1010s. Just watching Morse 12 noon Sunday. Looked at the TV guide during the ads (not full guide, the small one with 3 channels) and a square TV type screen popped up in the bottom right hand corner – no picture in it, just black square. Anyone know what this is or how it came to be there?

Had to turn the box off to get rid of it…….

I’ve had no joy from humax support yet, it’s my fault for using a third party dongle, I will have to try running a cable or rolling back.

    Quote:
We recently released a new version of the Humax WiFi dongle and the changes made would have been to help incorporate this, as well as the connectivity and WiFi scanning improvements as documented in the release notes.

The dongles aren’t deliberately being blocked, we simply do not test or support them.

Well I am in France, and I do like standardisation.

However whenever someone mentions a babies weight ….
