InactiveI’m going to give it a few more days ….. and if it does go back it may be for a refund.

InactiveJust another “data point” … it appers that the output uhf signal is internittently breaking. I do not know if this is coincidental with some function it is performing. The 5000t feeds the input of a Youview box which since adding the new 5000t box has had input signal drops every hour or two for just a few seconds.

To use the loopthrough you have to enable power saving in sby. As this uses a bit more power probably a bit greener to simply fit a tv splitter before the box so you don’t need to use passthrough.
You may have enough signal to use a 4 way splitter and give 5000T, Youview and TV seperate feeds.

InactiveThanks Graham,
I think you mean power saving off rather than on?
Power saving was always off to enable loop through and I’ve been a bit more pragmatic than that to double check the problem. I have “promoted” the Youview box to feed the 5000t (from the other way around) so that the Youview box cannot have the signal cut. There hasn’t been a cut signal since. To be clear the cut signal only use to last for a few seconds but for a few days I thought (wrongly) that perhaps the youview box was overheating or something, but I realised it only started once I had added the 5000t in the line feeding the Youview box. The 5000t also doesn’t always respond to the RC every time. And the not being able to tell whether it is on or off if it is recording is a bind simply because you hit the power button and patiently wait, and the lights give no clue, so then you hit the power again and eventually you get a picture. Because of power on lag this process with the self power on issue mkes it a bit of an annoyance. The timer on each day you suggested also seems to make other reset to default adjustments, like reducing the volume down to it’s preferred default from my preference.
Yesterday evening a large number of options were greyed out in settings eg options such as returne. This morning again all non-HD channels have dissapeared, so I have cancelled the timer just in case and smart retuned to get all channels back. I think it’ll be returned and I’ll revisit the box after a few more months.
It’s a shame because I sort of like the box, and I’ll think about it again tommorow to see whether the removal of the timer has improved it sufficiently. I know some people will always have a dud box, but some of this stuff feels like a lack of beta testing.

ParticipantThe power timer has a volume setting. Simply set your default volume level. It’s normal for any settings that can effect a recording in progress or about to start to be not available. They will come back after recording is finished. This applies to all Humax pvrs.
I have seen just the HD channels shown in the epg just once before, late last week. It apppears to be a random glitch that engages the HD channel genre settings. You can’t go down below 101 while looking at the epg. In this case returning box to sby and rebooting restored normal service. I didn’t need to retune.
However been away for the weekend and have just booted my box to test out subtitles for Martin. Epg is restricted to 101 to 204. Does not respond to 001 or just 1.
Interestingly if you scroll up one channel at a time it does 204 105 104 103 102 101 204. The reverse also goes 204 to 101 on pressing down.
Genre search also only finds HD channel content.
Don’t want to do the reboot at the moment as playing back Tipping Point.
Senior Moment – Yes Power Saving in sby has to be off to power the rf loop amp.

InactiveThanks Graham, I’m presuming from what you say that if my preferred volume level is the one that is set when making the timer settings then it should preserve my preference which it isn’t doing.
From what you are saying re HD channels which mirrors my experience exactly this is a general glitch. This is annoying on a 4 channel timer 2tb box because the whole tendency for this box is to be used for recording more speculatively for more of the day and one doesn’t want to be powering on and off to reestablish the non-HD channels. The box feels insufficiently tested with these basic glitches. I cannot say that authoritively because I have no point of genuine beta testing comparison with say the Youview testing where I receive requests from the beta team to try stuff or intended firmware/software beta updates every few weeks or so.

Pretty sure this is a brand new glitch. I use max volume for defaults. The volume is only relevant for SD channels. Can you switch to say BBC 1 in SD to see if the volume is retained ?

Inactive101 and 001 have the same level.

101 and 001 have the same level.
If you have surround sound enabled in digital audio out, if watching 101 you can use any volume setting you want it will not make any difference. It’s down to box outputting Dolby Digital on HD channels. The volume level is hard coded in the data stream. It can only be altered after decoding and converted to analogue in whatever you use for audio.

InactiveThanks, I only use old fashioned 2 RCA stereo. Until god gives me 5 ears, that is where Ii intend to stay.

ParticipantThe SD channels are still there as I can add a reservation on BBC 1 SD using schedule waiting to see what happens when it starts recording.
Once recording started watch live option brings back your SD epg display.
You may have 2 ears but I imagine you can tell like anyone else which direction a sound is coming from.

InactiveGraham, I knew you would say that ……

I’m trying to decide whether to return it or not. I’d normally return it with these issues without hesitation, but because of it’s clunkiness I’m really only using it to set recordings once a day, and then very late to playback recorded stuff. I’m not using it all evening in the way I’d use the BT Youview box as recorder and viewer.
Also the way I’d been using the BT Youview boxes was using two at a time with the same RC setting. So as I switched one box off the other went on. So essentially four record channels. One box failed and was returned and so the choice is sending the 5000t back and replacing one of the BT boxes or living with the eccentric 5000t.
I’ll decide tommorow.

Have you thought of a satellite dish ? Dirt cheap on e-bay and easy enough to setup if you have a suitable low down location.

Something went wrong there …. a double post.
I have both a Sky dish – was a very early adopter – and a fully motorised dish via a Technomate. I have a couple of Freesat recorder boxes an Echostar and a Hummy neither of them now used. The Echostar was suppose to replace the Slingboxes but was too unreliable when we travelled. I think we originally “met” in the days of 9150 9200 in the days of recording programmes using the software which we use to dump onto DVDs for our travels.
I gave up Sky a long time ago and now just use Netflix which I consider an absolute bargain alongside a VPN, Amazon Prime and Kodi loaded onto the Fire TV. We are well TV’ed and a complication is much is duplicated in another home.
