Just whipped the lid off a HDR 1000S and these are the Sam Young caps on main board (I think)
1 x 220uF 16V
1 x 220uF 10V
3 x 100uF 50V
It may be that later models use more surface-mount capacitors, which can be just as unreliable in my experience. Unfortunately, they are a little more tricky to replace.

InactiveI have a 1000S box open on the bench, circuit board Rev 1.0
Capacitors are as follows:
Through hole:
C95: 220uF 10V
C122: 220uF, 16V
C1732, C1744, C1747: 100uF, 50V
Surface mount:
3 x 100uF 16V
3 x 22uF 16V
3 x 10uF 50V
2 x 100uF 25v
Guess I’ll see if I can order up some replacements and warm up the soldering iron, there’s not much to lose

InactiveIt’ll be OK to use 220uF @ 16V for C95 and C122.

InactiveJust registered to add my name to the list of people with this problem.
I’m quite excited about getting the soldering iron out should it prove to be a capacitor issue.

InactiveReplaced all through hole caps. Still no hard drive found. It was worth a punt but no go.
Will see what other possible remedies will be suggested in days, weeks or months ahead!

For the record, my HDR-1000s has 3 x 220uF SM caps in it and NOT 22uf. Typo maybe?
I’m just replacing all caps now so I’ll report back if it makes any difference.

InactiveWell I changed all the caps, including the surface mount ones, for good quality low ESR Panasonic ones.
The box seems to run a little smoother (faster on boot and menus are a bit quicker) but the missing HDD still remains. I’m 100% convinced this is a SW issue now.

InactiveAye, another new member with same fault. Started 23rd March. No HDD or live pause. Emailed Humax customer support last week – no reply as yet.

InactiveThis number of complaints has got to be a bigger problem than capacitors etc. It surely requires a firmware update from Humax to resolve this. I’ll send off an email too in the hope that the more they receive the more likely a solution.

InactiveGot this email reply today…….
Thank you for contacting Humax.
This a problem that we are aware and our development team are currently carrying out an investigation to find out if our software could be causing the problem, this can also be caused by a hardware fault so the investigation is taking longer than we would like.
At this time the only suggestion I can make is to remove the units connection to the Freesat remote record application(if applicable) and perform a factory reset on your unit.
You can remove the app from deleting it from your smart phone/tablet.
I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

InactiveRepeating what’s already said but this is the reply I had.
Its all very unsatisfactory really, a problem which they seem unwilling or unable to resolve in which case they should recall instead of continuing to sell units.
1. What is wrong with the units
At the moment we are not sure, we are currently investigating, we only know whatever the cause is, the result is the unit does not detect a HDD
2. When a fix is likely
We have no set time frame at the moment, we will be releasing an update as soon as possible.
3. How many people are affected by this
We do not have an exact figure, it is a large amount of customers using the HDR-1000s, HDR-1010s and HDR-1100s.
4. Am I going to be notified when a fix is available
You may receive an on screen display, this will not be confirmed until we know the cause of the problem.
5. What I’m supposed to do to record programs until then having spent £200 on a unit which I can’t now use and good money on another unit I still can’t use either.
I’m afraid there will be no way to record until we have resolved the problem, I would suggest returning the unit you have just purchased.
6. The second unit I tried worked initially but stopped working after a reset
7. If it’s a software issue can I roll back so I can use the unit.
At this time we are not sure if it is exact software causing the problem, we have had customers try rolling back but this has made no difference
