One of the most requested updates to Freetime is the capability to save the recording schedule to a separate file and restore same after a factory reset (along with the capability to restore a corrupted time shift buffer file without formatting the entire hard disk). The capability is available on The Foxsat-HDR and HDR FOX T2 thanks to 3rd party add ons.
Perhaps this problem might persuade Freesat and Humax to dedicate some resources to this which on the face of it doesn’t seem to be a particulary difficult option to programme.
Oh dear. This suggests to me that the factory reset option is required rather more often than just the current situation. I had hoped otherwise!
I am still wondering whether to return my HDR 100s to John Lewis. Any advice??

Possibly every 6 months or so in normal usage. All Pvrs/PCs can be subject to data corruption in RAM/NVRAM (most likely due to mains spikes). In virtually all cases restoring the default setup works (In the case of a PC it’s reloaded from a Hard Disk). PVRs usually store the OS in Flash Memory). Anyone on a overhead line supply is likely to be more affected than others.
Your PVR is a PC but unlike your PC it uses a dedicated chip with limited functions operated by a software programme (usually called firmware). It’s likely you have a Washing Machine and other kit that also has a similar arrangement (Mechanical inflexible programmers are long gone on new domestic appliances).
The HDR1000/1010S is no different to other kit in this respect.
Have you never had to re-boot a windows PC to solve a similar issue ?

In all the time I’ve had my box which was since around February 2013 I can count on 1 had the amount of times I’ve performed a factory reset.
One of those times there was a bug which caused some odd behaviour which has been fixed since and the other time was when I played around with non-freesat mode and wanted to delete all the channels I scanned which was everything it could find on the transponders.
IMO don’t let this current issue put you off as its just an unfortunate thing that’s taken a little longer to ressolve than some may wish. Finding a quick fix was probably hampered by the fact it’s not affecting all boxes so they’ve got to work why some and not all considering they’re all pretty much exactly the same boxes.

InactiveI’ve had my HDR-1000S for about 10 or 11 months, and have been very happy with it. This is the first glitch (that I’ve noticed), and although it’s taking a while for them to fix, it’s just a software fault.
I’d hang on for a bit longer if I were you.

InactiveI’ve just recommissioned my HDR-1010S with a twin satellite feed and it appears that I have full On Demand, including YouTube, without seeking out a system update or resetting anything. The box is simply working.
System information shows no software changes since my post #88.

Sounds like the boffins have figured out the issue

The problem must be at the Humax/Freesat end. No one has had a software update. There must be some minor difference in newer boxes. I doubt we will ever know for definite what it is.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t your case a different situation? I thought I understood that your loss of functionality happened when the box had no satellite feed, and returned to full function when the feed was restored?

InactiveMy box was working properly without a sat feed for a couple of days before this problem was first reported. Then I lost On Demand at around the time this thread started. I reconnected the feed and On Demand was restored briefly, but dropped out again.
I don’t know if my problem is identical to others, but it seems very similar in some respects. Anyway, my Humax box is now staying connected, so any further loss of On Demand will put me in the same boat as others on this thread for sure.

InactiveHi, just to let you all know I have also got the same problem with On Demand and Showcase.
I have a humax hdr 1000s. Firmware uksfaa 2.02.01.
I bought this just 3 days ago on 27th September. Yesterday afternoon I tried the On Demand for the first time (by scrolling back on EPG) and it incorrectly gave a message that I needed a network connection of at least 2Mbs.
The ethernet is connected fine. I can access BBC iPlayer and ITV Player from Freesat channels 901 and 903.
We have BT Infinity 2 (75Mbs).The network settings show an IP address etc. I am connected via homeplugs but I have also tried it directly connected to the BT Home Hub 5 with no other devices connected.
Accessing On Demand via another option on the remote popped up a message to say On Demand was Unavailable.
I found another option that said I was connected to BeBox and my IP address. There was a Connect Automatically option and then this showed me BBC iPlayer and ITV Player in a list. But then there was just a Done button and this didn’t get me into On Demand.
Tried a factory reset this morning but it has not made any difference.

InactiveI only bought my HDR-1000s 6 fays ago (26/9/14).
I am having the same problem as everyone else on here.
Connected to internet but no on demand or showcase or freetime ID.
Contacted both freesat and humax.
No response from Humax but got the following email from freesat yesterday (29/9/14)
Thank you for your email regarding our On Demand services.
‘Freesat are currently having some technical difficulties with our On Demand platform which is stopping our customers from accessing this service. This problem has also had a knock on effect with other services which require an internet connection; Showcase, Freetime ID etc. Our engineers are looking into resolving this issue, and they have advised us that it should be fixed by the end of next week. What we suggest is to do a factory reset on your Humax box on Friday, and this should restore full functionality of your Freesat box.
We appreciate your patience regarding this issue.
If you need further assistance, or have any other queries, then please don’t hesitate to contact us.’
Just posted this for everyone to have the same information.
otherwise the freesat box is great, but I am sure I could have got the same for much less money without on demand etc, I had a freeview PVR before and now I have spent £170 to get a freesat version of the same thing until they get it fixed.

InactiveI wonder if the factor (or one of the factors) determining whether or not a box suffers from this problem might be whether or not the box is or has ever been paired or has been issued with a Freesat ID.
Does anyone have a paired or previously-paired box which can’t access Showcase or On Demand?

InactiveMine has a Freesat ID and is paired with my phone and tablet, which it has been since day one (14 days ago), and is now working properly.

Thanks for that. But since your particular problem seems to be different in some ways (e.g. the fact that it’s now working), it’s a different kettle of fish.
Does anyone have a box which is or has been paired and can’t access Showcase and On Demand?
