InactiveTried to turn my box on last night, wouldn’t even boot up. HDD would spin, then it would fall over and start from the beginning in a loop.
HDD’s are a reliable form of storage, but Humax’s implementation leaves a lot to be desired…

InactiveA shot in the dark, but I had a similar problem just after buying my 1100s. The box crashed, and when it tried to boot up, the disk would try to spin up, and then reboot. Whilst checking all of the connectors on the back, I noticed that the power lead came out very easily. On replacing it, i pushed a bit harder, and there was a definite ‘click’ as it went home. Since then, I have had no problems (fingers crossed!)

InactiveAs no one has replied to my posts on the mystery of the disappearing hard drive, I thought I’d have a trawl through the forum and see from this tread that I’m not alone.
Now to finding a replacement. One thing I can assure you of is that I won’t be buying another Humax. Ever. Period. Not because the box is crap (and it clearly is) but because their customer service is clearly worse than their box.

InactiveMy HDR1000S 1TB has just had this same issue appear 2 days ago. Annoyingly 10 days outside the extended warranty period. I purchased my box just over 2 years ago.
Seeing as so many boxed seem to have reported this issue in a short period of time, you would think that its potentially an issue with their software.
I’ll keep an eye on this forum for a fix, hopefully something soon.

InactiveI have been following this (and other threads) today! My wife reported our HDR1010 (purchased Nov 2013) was showing “no recordings”, “less that 1%” (instead of 62%). The planned recordings were still listed. We switched off at the mains for 10 minutes or more several times wth no change. Having ploughed through this very helpful topic, and noticing that, at one time I had paired with another device (probably the Samsung Galaxy that I lost in February), I decided to install the Freetime app on my current phone. I was immediately able to interact with the Humax and see the recordings list – though I understand this may have just been a copy uploaded to the cloud? This didn’t last long: the list soon disappeared and the connection was lost. Also there were problems at the Humax end, which on the Network connection settings screen was telling me that it was connected to the internet (by ethernet), while the Freetime ID screen was saying it wasn’t connected. This hung before it could get to the pairing code stage. I tackled this by disconnecting the Humax power, HDMI and ethernet connections (rather than just switching off at the mains). When I reconnected them after 10 minutes or so and switched on, the recordings list was there and we were able to watch recordings. We did notice that one planned recording had failed after a few minutes and a couple of subsequent planned recordings had not worked. We then noticed that the planned recordings list had been wiped. But we seem to have our recordings back. So far so good.

InactiveSmeb,
I’ll give your advice ago and unpair my device with the app etc.
I have also notice that since I have lost all my recordings and the ability to recognise the HDD, all the channel names have reverted to text format instead of the channel logos. Also I’m now missing all the images for On Demand, it just shows a black box with the word ‘image’ for BBC iPlayer, On Demand etc. Finally when watching 4OD there seems to be an issue with the adverts as these don’t play and it forces the programme back to the beginning.
I don’t know if these extra problems are due to me returning to default settings or there is some software bug which is causing all this.

ModeratorWelcome to our Forum

Reset to factory settings deletes the cache for channel icons, on demand images etc. Leave the unit on for an hour or so and they should download – can take a while.

InactiveAh ok, well its been a couple of days now with frequent use and still missing the channel icons and on demand logos. Hopefully they will return soon.
Now just to figure out how to get my hard drive recognised again.

InactiveI suspect it’s suffering from failed capacitors, similar to the one mentioned here:

External PSU’s used on the HDR 1***S units
Not sure what are used on main board.

ModeratorJust whipped the lid off a HDR 1000S and these are the Sam Young caps on main board (I think)
1 x 220uF 16V
1 x 220uF 10V
3 x 100uF 50V

InactiveI have a dead 1000S at home (won’t boot), and access to another (no longer recognizes HDD) as well. Will have to try replacing the caps and see if there’s any change.

InactiveMight be worthwhile trying the working power supply on the dead unit.

I’ll take a look in to box and see how easy it would be to swap these out. If its just a soldering iron job then I’ve no problems with that. This really shouldn’t be happening after 2 years.
It’s a shame that there aren’t any other Freesat boxes available, if this fails it looks like a HDR1100s might be required. Possibly with extra warranty as no doubt there will be issue again.

InactiveThe problem doesn’t seem the be the internal or external power supplies (which just provide 12V), but the device on the mainboard which produces the other required voltages from the incoming 12V.
This device (TPS65251 4.5-V to 18-V Input, High-Current, Synchronous Step-Down Three Buck Switcher With Integrated FET) gets upset when the capacitors go out of specification.
