If freesat are monitoring the thread lets not fight about the problem and use it collectively to find answers.

I agree launton. Keep the thread updated with any problems that have not already been identified. One additional bit of useful information could be key to a fix.

If Freesat/Humax want any additional information from the units giving trouble (maybe a hidden menu somewhere?) let us know and it can be collated here.

I work in the IT industry and firmware/software updates can often have unintended results no matter how much they are tested prior to general release. I notice that some posters are not having any issues so this could be down to a specific set of circumstances such as a specific chip-set or another version of on-board microcode.

There are so many possible permutations with hardware, code and configurations that checking them all is near impossible.

If Freesat/Humax are expecting an update/fix in <7 days that’s fast. Compare that to a recent problem I had on some data centre switches which took the manufacturer 3 months to identify and produce a fix for!

I posted earlier that I fitted a genuine Humax dongle which has cured the connectivity issue but I have had another problem with the box not responding to the remote. I had to unplug it and restart to get it to work, it has no done that before.

There were similar reports from some users before the recent update – possibly due to various causes from one user to another. See for instance the thread at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/humax-hdr1010s-nit-responding-to-remote-1

We’ve had the box over a year and never had a problem with the remote before and it is the only Humax we have so it’s not a conflict with another unit so is it the update or just a massive coincidence for it to happen now ?

Is it a problem with the remote, or is it a problem with the box freezing? Does it respond when you press buttons on the box itself?

This post is probably not necessary, however

Please keep reporting issues even if you have reported them before, and if possible as soon as you encounter it, or as soon as you can after the event.

    Many thanks.

The only thing I can report is being present when it’s happened. This morning watching ‘Lorraine’ (kill me now) I used the remote to increase the volume and the screen froze for a few seconds on remote reception, Crashed to power down and the hard disk heads didn’t park. They made the noise like when you kill mains. I rebooted the box and killed the buffer in the hope this was happening from hard disk access but the box rebooted again soon after, so I re-enabled the buffer.

Oddly, this afternoon I tried to downgrade the software manually via USB.(no particular reason) This failed due to the date of the older firmware (or is it actually possible?) The box went through the motions of writing the new (old)software but on reboot was still on the new firmware revision (there was no error message) Now the weird thing is it’s not rebooted after this for 9 hours solid. This is the longest mine has stayed on without crashing to standby and means nothing I’m sure but I’m putting it here for completeness.

Did the OTA update fail to wipe the previous software completely? (I do remember garbled boot icons (old freesat ‘fan’ showed on first boot then box crashed, rebooted then the new freetime animation showed) after that we all know what happened next.

    Hope this helps.

One thing I do remember is immediately after I updated to the latest software some front panel icons were still visible but only the timer, TV & HD icons, no rec icon – and they were not there after I did the reset and none are showing now.

Also I’m pretty sure the ‘Freesat Fan’ screen was still there before the reset but not after.

Really wish we could have the choice to switch off automatic updates.

Repeatedly requested over the past 3 years, Freesat will not agree to it.

I would suggest that we all contact FreeSat, and ask for an explanation, and remind them that FreeView is always an option.

I think I have been very fortunate in not getting the software update, so no update. I’ve read that some people had been able revert to the previous stable version of the software… just in case, how?

Having only just bought a HDR1010S 2 weeks ago after 8 years with the ‘other’ satellite provider, this is disappointing to suddenly have this issue of re-booting every 30 mins or so.

It is great to know that this forum exists as I too was about to return the box at the weekend as I was starting to think that it was a hardware fault. I was not even aware of the update until I ‘web searched’ for the problem and found this. I too have installed the Freesat app and had paired to the box prior to the update. This has now been uninstalled and will reset the box when I return from work later.

Will keep you informed of progress later.

Same here didn’t know an update had been done until these problems occurred. Previous update according to the Humax 20 May 2015, but rebooting (not quite as frequent as previously) & no front panel info “icons” (not really icons just abbreviations to denote certain features & yes I do read them mainly to remind me the box is recording).

& just when you begin to think things were becoming more stable -whatever happened to unit, link & system testing I wonder?

It’s about time that Humax a) released a firmware that lets you disable automatic firmware updates and b) had a Web page where you could download any of the firmware releases ever issued for deploying via USB stick.

I had major crash issues with the Nov 2014 release, but the May 2015 release is much better (contrary to almost everyone else!). The main issue I have now is that I have to wait a couple of minutes when coming out of standby before doing any remote control operations – it seems that whatever it does to get out of standby is prone to a box hang if you try anything with the remote for the first minute or so.

Update: On Sunday evening, I unlinked my box from the Freesat app, and I managed to go the whole of Sunday evening, and Monday, without any re-boots.

Of course, now I’ve said this it’s bound to happen!

    Barry,

Also having the same issue. I have the Fox Sat + box and using an Edimax dongle, which until the update was working just fine. I can no longer get any connection, it does not recognise the dongle.

Is there a way to wind back to the previous version? or will we be receiving a fix to this problem anytime soon from Humax do you know??
