Someone above talked about which channels I’d been tuned to. I tried to work out which – it’s CH23 for BBC4. But when I went into signal strength, I got a reading of 99-100 for CH23 on Tuner 1 but nowt on tuners 2 & 3 , nor any quality readings either – how do I get to see those ones?

FWIW, every time I retune my HDR Fox T2 the first recordings on BBC4 HD and SD fail.

So I record something I don’t want to get it back to normal.

I’m sure lots of others had similar problems with BBC4 in the past.

Been recording that show on BBC4 since it started on my Fox T2 – never any problem.

That could well be contributing to your problems; it sounds to me as though the signal strength could be too high. The fix is to install an attenuator in the aerial cabling (or if you have an amplifier turn down the gain or remove it).

Barry. Yes, mine was the exact same as yesterday. Do you have padding set on yours?

No padding, should not need it for BBC

Strength/Quality readings are only displayed when tuner in use ie recording as per FAQ

I think I’ve had this conversation about padding above. BBC are the worst culprits for starting a show before the scheduled time (see the One Show for example)

But if you wanted to replicate my problem you’d have to set the minimum padding or manually set the recording to start at 6:57 pm.

But if you wanted to replicate my problem you’d have to set the minimum padding or manually set the recording to start at 6:57 pm.

The whole point of accurate recording is to allow the broadcaster to signal your box when the actual recording starts. When you have start and end recording times set to auto, the broadcaster is able to tell your box when to stop and start recording. In order to make this work the box wakes up approx 15 mins before the scheduled start time and waits for the recording start signal.

When you set padding the box wakes up at the scheduled time with the padding adjustment and attempts to start recording the channel. It’s not really surprising that if the channel is then off air you have issues,

Set your start and end recording times to auto, pretty sure you will get the broken recording icon. When you press play the box will then find the first frame of the actual video (after a few seconds) and play back with no issues. There-after once the first frame with actual video content is found, the brokewn icon will be replaced with the first frame of the actual video. Thereafter it will play back without the broken icon.

Please try this out and report what happens.

Padding might at first sight appear appealing, in reality it simply negates the broadcaster capability to adjust the start and stop recording times.

For the main PSB channels. as Barry states you do not need it.

If you want to record the lesser channels that have no support for Accurate Recording, set a manual recording, build in your padding by adjusting the start and end times and set a suitable repeat pattern.

If you record the main PSB channels it’s not needed,

    1. I thought it was well known that BBC 1 early evening programmes start a couple of minutes early to allow for the news update at 19:57.

    3. With padding your BBC 4 timer starts before the channel is on air.

The more I research the FVP-5000T the more confused I become.

All I really want is a PVR that has all the functionality of my Humax PVR9150T plus HD tuners. I wouldn’t have thought that was asking a lot but already I’ve had to reconcile myself to losing the essential “Skip forward/backward” button if I buy a 5000T. I don’t much care for the idea of pressing multiple buttons and having an intrusive “timeline” onscreen every time I want to skip forward or back 30 seconds.

And now I read on another forum that with the FVP-5000T:

“The only way to turnoff wifi is to do a Factory Reset. I tried to make wifi fail with an incorrect password (as I do on my DVD player) – but it just goes back to the previous correct password! I want to remove it as it’s hammering my broadband for some reason”.

    Can that be true?

I have no interest in catch-up TV or any other internet functions and see no reason why the Humax should access my broadband at all. But will the 5000T even work without an internet connection? (Bearing in mind that I only want to watch and record terrestrial channels). Is the 5000T just the wrong product for me?

I’ve read so many posts opining that “4000/5000 are backwards steps from the T2 with so much great usability taken away”, that I looked into buying an HD-FOX T2, but of course, it’s discontinued.

I’m in the same position with my three year old Panasonic TV. I wish I could buy an identical new model. But all the new models omit essential functions.

Why are all these manufacturers just going backwards?

    Marius,

Having moved from Youview to the box I have to say it is mystifying not to have a skip forward and backward key. The obvious thing you wish to do when playing back a programme on a commercial channel is skip in steps of a minute forward … often four skips…. to skip, the adverts. It is a real loss and you sort of feel that the people designing and releasing the boxes don’t use them. I realise that this can’t be true but these ommissions in what are essential functions are puzzling. The loss of a + AND – key to skip up and down a page in guide view I also miss. At the moment it feels very backward and sort of rustic and retro compared with Youview in terms of basic function although alternative broadcasts is a useful record function. To he honest, whilst I have fond memories of the 9150 I think you will be able to live with a replacement such as this new box. I just wish they’d had a Youview 2 tb multi tuner box.

    Thanks for the reply.

Your comments inspired me to check out the Humax DTR-T2000 500GB YouView box. It has the essential “Skip forward/backward button” and all the other features I need.

Everyone seemed well pleased with it until March 2017 when the morons ruined that too with a retrograde change of interface that generated a collective howl of rage in the YouView forums with comments like:

    https://community.youview.com/youview/discussion/7366729/youview-next-gen-first-impressions/p9

“Have joined this forum just to add my voice. I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE NEW INTERFACE. I want to be able to list my recorded programs as text, NOT images, and I want to be able to sort them alphabetically so I can find all X-Files together, etc. It used to be so quick and easy”.

    And:

“How they have the gall to call the latest firmware an upgrade is beyond me. They takeaway major functionality, make things more difficult to navigate, Did they give the job to the work experience person? Whoever is responsible for this travesty should be fired”.

    And:

“Just received this unexpected, unwanted, bloody awful “update”. Tried to navigate the cluttered and hard-to-read myview recorded programmes and turned the wretched thing off after failing to find something that was there yesterday. Will be looking for alternatives to this rubbish”.

The members of this forum were similarly unimpressed:

    https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/t2000-sudden-menu-style-change

    Backwards, backwards backwards…

So is the YouView interface still an unmitigated disaster or have they fixed it since then?

Like the poster above, I certainly want to “be able to list my recorded programs as text, NOT images”.

And can I use a DTR-T2000 with it being connected to the internet?

Ah, why is it all so complicated? :)

A few misconceptions being posted here so some corrections…

You do not have to press multiple buttons to use the skip function, press the arrow key corresponding to the direction of skip required displays the timeline, continual presses will skip the duration user has set.

Paging up and down in guide is by pressing the CH up/down button, as is paging in other areas.

Barry – 27 minutes ago  » Paging up and down in guide is by pressing the CH up/down button, as is paging in other areas.

Yes that is correct using the channel up/down key, but you used to be able to nudge the guide up one line at a time using the central arrow key, now when you get to the top instead of just nudging up to the next channel it will display the whole page, therefore acting just the same way as the channel up/down key.

This really annoying trait was introduced in the update after they made the major change to the guide.

Basically if you are watching ITV, go into the guide which will have ITV at the top, then press the up arrow key, instead of showing the next channel BBC2 at the top of the guide, it moves up a whole page and puts BBC2 at the bottom.

The only way around this is to type 101 whilst in the guide and this will put BBC1 at the top whilst remaining on ITV, so more button presses 🙄

Just received shiny new 2TB FVP-5000T. Set up was a breeze.

I have added the 4000T device to my Harmony remote and a watch FVP-5000T activity. Just tested it and it succesfully changed from watching HDR-1000S to FVP-5000T. The remote menu button functions as the Freeview Play button.

The FVP-5000T device has not yet made it into the Harmony Device database.

The harmony combined with it’s hub, does seem to be a much superior control to the supplied RM-L08 which is very directional and seems to have limited range.

As others have said it’s not as snappy as Humax boxes like the HDR-1000S and HDR-FOX-T2. No idea if the response is improved from the 4000T former model which I guess would be down to the newer software.

One tip I have already found is that the Harmony favourites are handy to quickly select a channel when in the epg. eg Pressing BBC 1 HD jumps to 101 near instantly wherever you are in the epg.

Will post more when I have used the box for a while.

Skip forward/back is by using the left/right arrow keys around the central OK button.
