    Mr Reffub

So what you’re saying is,because it is a computer we have to accept that it does not work properly and therefore is not fit for purpose all the time.

If this is so why isn’t it reflected in the price we have paid .

Also it’s very comforting thought to those of us who fly in computer controlled aircraft, and soon to be riding around in driverless cars.If computers are made properly and programmed properly they should work properly.Unfortunatly too many people see blaming “the Computer” as the easy option, rather than sorting out the problem

I also have this problem. Basically the same as most which is it happened a while back than cured itself and is now happening again. I did do a factory reset and a hard disk cleanup the first time and I thought that had cleared the problem as it didn’t happen again until now but the same thing hasn’t cured it this time so my actions must just have coincided with the general recovery.

One thing I’ve noticed is that just before it locks up the EPG has large gaps in it on certain channels such as CH4 HD.

Interestingly digital text still works during the lockup – as long as I’m on BBC obviously. This definitely seems to be EPG related.

Ch4 HD is one of the rollback channels. It would be interesting to know if the rollback channels are the only ones with gaps.

No I don’t think I was saying that

You mentioned price, PVR’s are generally made as cheaply as possible. They need to be otherwise we wouldn’t buy them, there are cheaper and probably worse PVR’s out there.

I’m guessing the computers you mentioned that fly planes etc would be slightly more Hi-Tech and a tiny little bit more expensive !! As far as I know the 1000s etc doesn’t actually put people’s life in danger if it fails to record a programme. (Or maybe it does !)

I’ve obviously been very unlucky as I’ve never had a computer/tablet that didn’t crash or lockup for some reason or another. Maybe I should be complaining to Apple that my iPad crashes twice a day and so it isn’t fit for purpose.

Anyway as far as I can tell Humax are taking this seriously, hopefully it will be sorted soon. They aren’t blaming computers, I was just pointing out that in my experience the occasional lock up can be expected.

    Hi all, newbie here.

Just want to add my name to the list of affected HDR 1000S users.

As previous comments, done all the above, have contacted Humax, awaiting response.

My unit was purchased from Currys in November.

From previous posts and the last lockup I have had, there would seem to be differences in the extent of the lockups.

In my case all keys and the front panel were unresponsive. In other posts and my odd lockup or two last year the remote Standby, Mute and volume keys remained responsive.

From previous middleware design experience I speculate that the full lockup problem involves an interrupt service routine.

Phew!!! Glad I found this forum. Been experiencing the same problems with my HDR-1010S for the past 4 weeks. I have had this machine for over a year, and have been very impressed with it.

My problems with it always appear at start-up. It will bring up the TV guide and in-picture of the channel it is on, but from there I can’t get the box to do anything. Pressing EXIT will sometimes make the TV Guide disappear, but will leave a black screen, with the tiny picture in the top right of the screen as you look at it. This is generally resolved with a 5-minute switch-off of power supply, but over a period of time, this has become tiresome and requires me to move our tv unit each time. Hopefully this issue will be resolved, as I think the box is awesome. The Wi-Fi capability being the big advantage. Hopefully Barry can help us all out, as reading through the threads, he seems a genuinely helpful person.

Any news from Humax Barry, assuming you are in regular contact with them? Must say I’m really disappointed in them, letting customers down simply by not even making mention of this on their news feeds so customers can be reassured.

Hi again all, after yesterdays 4 system lockouts, I decided to switch off auto switch on, auto power saver, and switch the box off manually when finished using the remote and then switching back on also using the remote. So far today I have had no lockups but will wait for a few more days before changing anything else.

Always In regular contact with Humax Towers, they are still trying to identify the cause.

Whilst not disputing some of you are having issues, again yesterday 3 units on all day and no ‘lockouts’

Hi all, just to update, my box booted up ok again this morning.

So either switching off the options as previous post, or the possible data overload as others have posted about, or possibly the problem has been dealt with by others! time will tell.

Hi guys, just received this from Humax support team, haven’t tried it yet.Thank you for contacting Humax Support.

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble. The issue was caused by a recent issue on the Freesat server and if you are still encountering issues you will need to follow the below steps:

Please find the instructions below to reset your box.

Following these instructions will reset some system settings including your Recording Schedule (Please replace when complete to ensure you still record favourite programmes)

Any previous recorded programmes will be saved.

    1. Press Settings or Home on your remote.

    2. Move to Settings > System Settings and press OK.

    3. Move to Factory Default and press OK.

    4. Reset System will be highlighted, press OK.

    5. It will ask you if you are sure, highlight Yes and press OK.

    6. It will then ask for your password, default is 0000

    7. The box will then reset itself. You will then need to go through the initial setup again.

Once reset, you will need to leave the unit on BBC 1 HD for roughly 30 minutes.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Will give it a go later.

The above is slightly misleading, as it doesn’t work for all.
