At times, however, it feels more like a fan club website where the product is defended with all the blinkered vigour of a prepubescent teenager warding off criticism of her favourite boyband.
Can I be clear about this? If people aren’t reporting the same issues as you claim to have then we are guilty of sycophancy, am I correct? Priceless, no really priceless.
People are reporting the same issues. the same issues are being reported on this thread, More people have said they have said they have experienced the problem than vice wersa s let’s assume that the problem exists.

…………..And while I’m at it, please Humax, either fix the dnla client ot take it off. it’s pointless being there if it doesn’t do the job properly.
Why not say what you think is wrong with it – you may have come across something new.
What I know:
1. Cannot choose audio track – plays A|D is present.
2. Problems with displaying very large quantities of files.
It seems very good with Foxsat recordings (except 1)

The problems are on a seperate thread but really your number 2 is my main bone of contention. I bought a NAS and spent the best part of a day consolidating my music collection only to find that the Humax can’t cope with it.

Yes, common problem. Same here, my 1000S freezes and reboots when I try to open the music folder on my NAS/Twonky server.
The annoying thing is I have several media players, older than and cheaper than the 1000S, which handle things perfectly.

InactiveOn CH4 OD I tried using the FF key and it simply moved the pointer on the scale forward, but the actual pgm sound & picture continued at the current point. I then tried pressing OK and the pgm moved to the selected point on the scale.
Anyone else found this to be the case?

Is it the Humax or is it Twonky? I ask because I have found Twonky can be flaky in this respect.

Well I can only say that the 1000S is the only device of 5 that I have, also others that my sons have used, and yet others I have tested, that exhibits this problem. Case made I would say.

InactiveOK, so who decided to put the “Delete all episodes” choice next to the “Delete series” choice ????? 😈 They could have at least kept those two choices apart from each other so there are no mishaps.

Well I have had to disable Twonky server as it’s always making my NAS freeze – case made I would say.

i really don’t care whether it;s twonky or some other software. All I know is that my LG home cinema system can cope and ny Humax can’t cope, windows media player copes fine on all platforms from XP through Vita to Windows 7. both my phone and the wife’s phone (neither of them very high spec) can cope with my NAS. The Humax is the only device I have that can’t cope. I think it’s safe to assume that it’s not the server software that’s at fault here.

In the context of this discussion, namely the abilities of the 1000S DLNA Client, what possible relevance does your claim have? None I would say.
I have been running Twonky on my QNAP NAS for 5 years now and it has never caused any problems of any kind either with the NAS or any client. So clearly you have a problem with your setup.
EDIT: I googled “Twonky freezes NAS” and found reference to some models of QNAP NAS having exactly this problem when combined with certain levels of firmware. QNAP released a fix in a subsequent f/w release. So if your setup has this combination, QNAP NAS and downlevel f/w, you should update your f/w or contact QNAP.
Glad to be of help.

InactiveThere are plenty posts regarding issues with Twonky on the interweb. Some companies have gone to DNLA as first choice rather than Twonky. I now rely on iTunes server.

See my post #147 above. You clearly have a problem with your NAS setup.

InactiveI decided to carry out another check on the Humax media client.
I went into admin on my QNAP NAS and had the Twonky server to a complete new database build from scratch. The server quickly rebuilt the Video and Photo folders and while it was busy building the Music folder I went to the Humax 1000S and called up the media client. I found the following…
Video… the client listed all my movies and would play some AVI files no problem, not all.
Photos… the client listed all my photos and displayed some JPEGs no problem, not all.
Music… the client listed the music files so far catalogued by the server but would not play any (MP3s) at all. However, keeping an eye on the server, which was still building, I found that when the number of music files passed approx 10,000 the Humax client crashed and the box rebooted.
The QNAP NAS was still running and the Twonky server still building. I went into admin and there were no errors of any kind.
Conclusion… the client is very clearly running out of memory at around 10k music files and cannot handle that error condition. The actual break point may be lower than this, difficult to judge.
For both AVI and JPEG there is no obvious indication as to why some files will not play.
For me the client is useless in its current form.
At this point, with the Twonky build still in progress, music files at 28,000, I went into my Panasonic Viera TV, which also has a media client. I connected to the Twonky server and the TV played everything I threw at it. Every movie, photo and MP3, including those failed by the Humax.
If Humax are intending this client to simply play back recordings made on another Humax PVR, acting as a server, then they should state this in their spec.
Case rests.
