InactiveHi, what I will try from now on is to check that the display on the Humax is changing , with the remote, before switching the tv on, and will post if I get any results.

Lets rule out any interference with other devices that is not the cause of the problem.
Must be something to do with the channel broadcasting making it a freesat problem.
But then if that was the case would it not affect every owner with the same model box?
I’m no expert but this has nothing to do with your tvs etc… i have had the same setup for almost 2 years now and never had this problem until it was reported a few weeks back and at the same time as everyone else.
Now the problem is back exact same issue and at the same time as everyone else so this must be a freesat/broadcasting issue. Why everyone isn’t getting it i don’t no but for everyone to experience the same problem on the same days cant be anything else.
Will continue to see how things go over the next few weeks with the box.

InactiveHi have just got home at 21:58
The tv was switched off at about 16:00
I tested the box by using the remote and the prog changed ok on the boxes display
I have just tried the same test before switching on the tv, and the prog wont change on the display.
Switched on tv and BBC1 was still running, the box had not automatically gone into power save mode.
As usual only Mute and volume working from remote.
Pressed off and on and no prog but did notice a small clock icon on the box display.
Switched off at mains and back on and all working yet again.
Still ok at 10:28

InactiveHi,
I’ve only had my box about a month and this issue has just started occurring for me. I am based in the UK (Wiltshire). Box randomly stops responding to the remote, except I can power off from the remote, then the only way to get it working again is to remove and reconnect the power lead. Has happened four times in past 24 hours. Last update showing as 04 Nov. Not connected to Internet.
Hugely frustrating!
Is there anything I can do? Is my box able to receive a software update or other communication from Humax without being connected to the Internet? (apologies for the novice question).

InactiveSlightly different tonight: We’d been watching a recording for an hour then pressed pause, but nothing happened – the recording continued to play… Pressed pause again and still nothing happened… Oh-oh – here we go again… It’s locked up again, we’ll have to unplug the mains, so we just ignored the screen for a while.
10-15 seconds later, though, it paused, all by itself…
Since then, it’s been behaving normally without further intervention. It’s not done that before…

InactiveMy box is also a 1010s.
I have tried using a universal remote when a lockup occurs.
It is the most frustrating thing, locked up 4 times in a few hours the other evening. I have another non humax freesat box and that has no issues. No other box manufacturer seems to have these issues therefore I can only assume it’s a problem affecting Humax.

InactiveThe G2 data streams contain additional data.
Humax G1 units do not have the problem (as you say).
No one other than Humax have G2 units on the market.
My guess is that freesat has been tinkering with the data stream.
It must be a combination of events that actually triggers it however.

Hi,
It can/will/should update via satellite when available (OTA). It checks for new software when it has been turned off and probably at other times too.
Welcome to the forum.

InactiveHi all, after resetting the box last night and going to bed frustrated, I left box on, expecting the auto power save to kick in, this morning the box is still on the channel I had left it on and is not responding again, that’s 4 times since yesterday. I think I am going to take it back to Currys today as this problem seems to be getting no better, and my warrenty runs out next month.

InactiveHi just as an aside, I found my old RM-108 remote from my previous Humax, this also works only with volume and mute (there is no pause on this remote) when box is frozen. On resetting, all usual buttons work, so definitely not a “remote” problem.

The Showcase feature not only dumps more data on the box (or tries to), but the normal path for acquisition of the data expects an internet connection – which many of the boxes reporting this problem don’t seem to have. Maybe the freezing is due to the box not adequately coping with various environmental contingencies (such as lack of an internet connection, or multiple concurrent processing demands) which might be encountered while populating and re-populating Showcase repeatedly.
Showcase is a very important feature for Freesat, being curated and not just created algorithmically. It probably gets tinkered with frequently, perhaps involving sudden increases in the volume of data trying to get onto the box. Which could cause intermittent trouble to some boxes while going smoothly for others.
But if it’s something along those lines that is causing these problems, it would surely come as no surprise to either Humax or Freesat, so there must be another factor.

InactiveI had a Humax with the same problem, that was over a year ago.I decided to buy a Humax HDR 1000s to replace it.
The replacement has been perfect till the last few days then, there was no response from the remote handset, unless I re-booted it.Back to square one then!
I rang Humax this am (12-03-15).Iwas told the problem was at their end and, advised not to take the set back to the retailer and, they were working on a solution today and,to ring back tomorrow if it was
still faulty.
If I had the same problem over a year ago;why then, has it not been fixed earlier?

Different box, using different software: almost certainly a different problem.
Interesting response from Humax though. Not to say rash.

Inactive@Snags.
I think we can expect the very occasional non responsive locked up box, it is basically a computer. I had a couple last year and unfortunately an above average 4 so far this year !!! (So no where near as many lockups as others are experiencing)
During my first few months of ownership it locked up all the time, mostly while recording, but the software was really pants back then.
