InactiveDon’t know – but that makes sense, and would explain why the app still shows stuff. But then… why would I have a cloud copy of recordings I made before installing the app?

InactiveGood question. Can you set a recording using the app?

On installing the app it uploads to the cloud all recordings scheduled? Just an educated guess since I don’t use the app due to its obvious drawback of booting up the disk every 20 mins.

Not on installation, nor on log-in, but once paired, yes, probably, I agree. But the app was downloaded after the HDD turned invisible, so the app must have been able to see the list even though the box could not.

another one with the same issue here! Froze last night, no recordings on restart and no HDD visible. Haven’t had any error messages; spoke to Humax this morning who told me to reset to factory defaults… made no difference. Pfffffftt….. don’t make me go back to Sky, please!!!!
Mate have a look on ebay for “Zgemma Star 2S Twin Tuner” and get one with a 6 or 12 month gift.
I wish i did it years ago now.
Kind Regards
Simon
Really? I was always taught to beware of people bearing gifts – especially from a vague Chinese maker. Reviews on the river site aren’t exactly glowing either.
Well ive had a openbox for over 1 month now and ive go a Zgemma Star 2S Twin Tuner just over 1 week ago and its the best move I ever did.
im so impressed with them little boxes and even if it last 12 months its still only 10% of what sky would charge. its a no brainer.
Yes this is true, however, I’m not sure if you have realised but this is a site dedicated to Humax PVRs not some cheap Chinese imitation.
Although this site is dedicated to Humax, it is a public forum, I also suspect many of the contributers may also be employees of Humax, but if a company has an epidemic fault on machines that are barely out of warranty and frequently tries to deny it and either is unable or unwilling to resolve the issue for previously loyal customers, Humax can expect a certain amount of flack and those disgruntled customers to look elsewhere. After all if this problem continues to persist what options is there but to look elsewhere. So I think alternative recommendations are a valid subject for debate.

Perhaps you would care to name the contributors that you suspect of being Humax employees; as far as I am aware there are no Humax employees contributing to this site. In long gone days one or two Humax employees have contributed very occasionally to other Humax related sites but sadly Humax today are very different to the company they were ten years ago.

I just thought it likely Humax employees would take an interest in a forum dedicated to their products, I know I would. Maybe more problems would be resolved if they did take more of an interest.

InactiveGlad I found this thread, my HDR-1010S hard drive says it needs to format the drive, but will try to format for well over 24 hours with seemingly nothing happening.
Another HDR-1000S I have has a similar problem, so can only imagine it is a firmware issue at this point. Not impressed at all. Hope it gets fixed soon!

I agree with that view. I’ve never seen any clear evidence of Humax employees participation in any forum discussing their products. With regard to the former official Freesat forum, it became clear that they, Freesat, regarded it as a pathway to deliver good news messages, whereas the users pretty much unanimously used it as a dumping ground for all their, perfectly justified, complaints. Freesat first tried banning users then promptly closed it down. Humax had a fairly good Facebook page which followed the same path. You might reasonably conclude that neither Freesat nor Humax seem overly interested in feedback as to how their products perform in the field. In contrast I have other technology kit with forums where the guy(s) who actually develop the h/w & s/w participate on a daily basis. Those types of product are top of the list when considering a new purchase.

InactiveHi Everyone,
I recently purchased 2 refurbished HDR-1000S units from Humax Direct. After 4 weeks of use one of them has lost all recordings and will not recognise the hard drive..sound familiar ? I have been in touch with Humax Customer Support and been told that it is a known issue possibly due to their software, which is being investigated. I was also told that replacing the HDD would not resolve the problem. I was offered a replacement unit on the understanding that should this one show the same problem then I was to wait for a software update. Although Humax’s response has been fast and polite, I do not find this situation acceptable. I am considering taking steps for a full refund (paid by PayPal so should have Buyer Protection at least). Any thoughts/suggestions ?

Any thoughts/suggestions ?There’s a tool on the Consumer Advice website which should tell you if you’re entitled to a full refund. I think it depends exactly how long you’ve had it.

InactiveI have similar problem with Hard Drive no longer being recognised by Box. It does recognise USB stick, but will not format it. I did send Humax support a message and they said a fix would be released. The latest fix 3.00.20 on Humax web site indicates this fixes HD problem. However having loaded it today, it makes no difference, so have emailed Humax support again. Last email was replied to after about 2 weeks.
Is there anyway of rescuing recording from Hard drive? I do have Ubuntu available so can read EXT drive, although Humax Box never shows up on network.

Your recordings are almost certainly still there and the drive is probably okay but as the recordings are encrypted there is no way of accessing them until the box recognises the drive. Naturally if a fix involves formatting the drive your recordings will be permenamtly lost
