InactiveHello everyone, hope you can help.
I got a new HDR-1100S May 2016, installed here in France and all fine until a few weeks ago.
We had an electrical storm and a lightning hit very close – a couple of circuits in the house tripped. A short while after I realized that the box was not giving any programs. After research online everything pointed to a goosed LNB (quad)so a new one was sourced and fitted.
The lnb has two feeds to the Humax and a single feed to a sky box in our rental cottage. The single feed to the sky box was ok, but it appeared that one of the feeds to the Humax was not good – Tuner 2 was only showing about 30% strength and 60% quality. I swapped the feeds around at the LNB but nothing changed. So swapped them at the back of the box and again nothing changed.
All connections were checked and rechecked..all good.
Then we get channel weak or no signal messages while changing chanels..not all the time. Some planned recordings not happening.
Checking yesterday this is the situation:
Tuner 1 always shows excellent strength and quality, Tuner 2 bad strength, good or poor quality.
If I hit record on 101 (BBC1) and then tune to other channels 102 is missing, 103,4,5 ok, 106 missing, 108 onwards ok. When tuned to 102 and recording 101 and signal checked it says no signal on tuner 2. When not recording on 101, the signal for tuner 2 is bad strength and good quality.
I’ve done a factory reset (did not loose recordings)…
Anybody got any clues?
Thanks,
Steve

InactiveForgot to say – when not recording channels are there. Also when recording 103, 102, 106 missing.

InactiveIt is sounding like tuner 2 is failing to switch bands.
Can you clarify “missing” do you mean no signal or absent from EPG?
What regions does your unit set receive?

InactiveThanks Repassac.
By missing I mean that no signal message is given – the channels are shown on the EPG.
The box is set to receive NE England.

I am in France and have forgot what that translates into BBC and ITV regions.
Can you make two lists of the channels Frequencies and the letter after them (Polarisation) one for OK and one NOK please.
See https://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-2E-2F-2G.html
p.s. If you just swap the lnb connections at the rear of the unit does the problem stay on tuner 2?

InactiveNorth East England is BBC North East and Cumbria and ITV Tyne Tees.

InactiveRepassac – we are in France as well – Charente Maritime.
I’ve no idea how to find out the channel frequencies or polarisation….
I did swap the feeds into the box, but the problem is always on tuner 2.
While recording 101 BBC the following are ok:
103, 104, 105, 108, 109, 111, 112, 114, 119, 120, 125, 128-133, 140, 141, 151, 162, 200, 203, 207, 208, 211, 213, ….
Not Ok:
102, 110, 113, 115-118, 121-127, 142-161, 164, 165, 167, 169, 201, ….
134-139 were not ok but in addition the no signal message did not appear..
I did not go through all the channels…..
Hope that is enough to identify the problem.
Thanks,
Steve

InactiveSteve – the link I gave you above was a list of channels/frequency.
While you appear to especially have problems with vertical polarised channels there is an exception to this.
The freesat channel list implies that on 102, which I would expect to be BBC Two England, some users receive the HD version. can you confirm that you normally get BBC England (SD) on 102.

InactiveRepassac.. thanks for your help. I’m sorry – I read your post on my email, did not see the link, then replied on the forum…apologies.
However I’ve since followed the link and am totally confused by all the info..can’t seem to make head nor tail of it…to further frustrate me (very easy) our Satellite Broadband service at the moment (end of the month) is being ‘squeezed’ and it’s difficult to use for any length of time.
I can tell you though that channel 102 is BBC 2 HD, 108 is BBC 2 SD..
Thanks again,
Steve

Repassac I think 110 (the only horizontal channel) may be a red herring being BBC 4 which is a evening only channel and may simply been off air. Suspect a check of Cbeebies on 608 (which is shared with BBC 4) would have worked. Perhaps the OP could check this.
Can I suggest the OP uses the BBC-SD regions for the test recordings in the 900s as then the transponder in use will be known.
One from a vertical and one horizontal one and see if the missing list are all vertical.

Guessing tuner 2 will only output approx 18 V so unable to switch to approx 13V to get the vertical channels.

Thanks Graham. Loss of vertical was my original thought.
Lightning can cause havoc – a friend had a hit on a exterior metal light fitting – it took out the central heating boiler electronics and caused a lot of other damage. House contents insurance paid up.

InactiveSteve – out of interest – what size dish do you use up there. I have a 100cm, I am in 32460. I guess you could get away with an 80cm.

Interesting, looks like tuner 2 is not outputting any DC at all. Tuner 1 is powering lnb and switching recording channel changes the 2nd tuner to only get channels that match the polarisation tuner 1 is using.
Can you check the following to see if tuner 2 is band switching OK, if it’s not I have an idea that may allow you to continue to use the box.
Record 108 – can you watch/listen to the following
146 Challenge
147 Challenge +1
165 Forces TV
750 RTE Radio 1
751 RTE 2fm
752 RTE Lyric fm
753 RTE RnaG
508 Kiss
510 Magic
