ParticipantShiny new HD Fox T2 arrived today about an hour ago. Installed with no problems and set up with 320GB recording drive.
I can’t get the box to recognise the network. It’s connected to a network switch using the same port as I use with a temporary connection to the hdr without issues.
Set to DHCP it seems unable to get an IP address. RJ45 has green led and flashing Orange so something is happening. If I plug a known working cable from my laptop which connects everytime still no use.
Tried a box factory reset and a power cycle on the router.
Any ideas.

InactiveDo you have to reboot the Fox AFTER you have configured it to use DHCP, maybe?

ParticipantTried that multiple times
: Should have mentioned I upgraded the firmware to the latest official as well.

InactiveI’m at a loss if it works OK on your HDR.
If you set up a static ip on the Fox in your network’s range, and tell it to use your router ip address as the default gateway, do you get a connection then? Again, rebooting after setting this config up.

ParticipantThat worked it now says network connected. Can I leave it with these settings I used a address 5 above my existing ones giving
xxx.xxx.xxx.100 Wireless Lan card in my laptop
xxx.xxx.xxx.105 Lan adaptor in my Laptop
xxx.xxx.xxx.110 Fox T2
Bit of a dummy with networks I am afraid.

ModeratorBit late to the party, been trying all sorts to replicate on my unit, but it connects each and every time, DHCP, Manually, and Wifi.
If you have it working now I would leave the settings as they are, I use a ‘5’ gap on all my kit 😮 manually configured.

ParticipantThanks both. No doubt will have more questions
, once I set up the laptop as a dnla server. Here’s a couple.
What’s the status of the Portal connection on the box, pressing the pretty green button does nothing ?.
Can I ftp content to the HDD connected to the unit ?

InactiveHi Graham, that will be fine, unless you have lots of guests visiting with their laptops/PS3s/iphones etc., all requiring DHCP addresses

For my “Statics”, I usually set them up in the 200’s
If you look in your Router Config you should be able to see (and/or set) the range limit for the DHCP server.

ParticipantPressing Portal does nothing. Other than confirming the network is connected (which it now is) is there any other settings to alter ?

InactiveHi Graham,
I would suggest that you setup an address reservation in the router or shorten the router DHCP address pool and give the STB a number outside the pool. Two years down the road one forgets these things and spend hours tracing a problem.
I see you are getting quite some flack on DS. I thought if I posted it would just go on and on.

InactiveHi Graham,
Essentially you have 256 addresses available to you on your network – probably something like 192.168.n.0-255
In my router, I limit DHCP Server range from n.2 to n.50, which should be plenty, and I put my Static addresses on that equipment from n.200-255, which does leave a gap in the middle should I need to extend either my dynamics upwards or my statics downwards.

You can’t use 255 it is the broadcast address if your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. but good advice otherwise.
