Hi, just wondering if anyone has installed new software to a Humax Aura from usb. I’m getting all sorts of problems and wondered if software re-installation might fix things. I have programmes recorded and don’t want to lose them.

I’m not aware of any software available by USB. The only update channel I know of is via the internet.

Thanks for the quick reply. I don’t seem to be able to force a reload on the box, it just tells me I’m up to date. I’ve “fixed” a few Humax freeview and freesat boxes by reloading the software.

I’ve usually updated other Humax models using USB, especially after the broadcast update route was stopped. There is no Aura software listed on https://uk.humaxdigital.com/support/?product_id=551197&curr_page=sw_release whereas on similar pages for other models there is.

Looks like I may be getting a new device next year, especially if it gets worse.

It probably won’t be a Humax! Sad, I’ve had a Humax pvr of one form or another since the mid 90’s; most worked perfectly but not this one. It’s my second one, the first went back to Humax under warranty.

Unfortunately they arent much good as consumer items. VHS were much more reliable!!!

You must be joking! That spinning recording head was nothing but trouble, kept getting oxide on it from the tapes. I must have cleaned mine 6 times before I went digital with hard drive storage. Most of the Humax boxes I’ve had have been extremely reliable, I haven’t ever had a disk failure. I’ve had pvr 9200, 9300, HDR-2000T, Foxsat HDR and FVP-4000T and 5000T. All very reliable but not so the Aura, more’s the pity.

Absolutely agree, not to mention the convenience of direct access to recordings, pause live TV, etc.

Don’t forget all the problems we had with perished and slipping drive belts and chewed up tapes!

My old VCRs chewed taped and refused to spit them out
