I have tried to resurrect the box, but no lights, or noise from the hard drive. I bought a SATA to USB interface, removed the drive from the Humax box and connected it to my Windows 10 laptop. However, the laptop doesn’t show the content of the drive. If I connect the drive to the USB port of my FVP 5000T I can see the files and directories but cannot play them. All recordings were SD.

Is there any way of playing the recordings?

Any suggestions for what to try to resurrect the HDR-2000T?

Unless you can resurrect the original 2000T your chances of playing any recordings are nil. All recordings are encrypted with a key that is unique to a particular 2000T.

Even if you could see them using the SATA to USB connected to a computer they would be unplayable.

@EEPhil Thanks for your helpful response. I read somewhere that only HD recordings were encrypted, so thanks for confirming that SD is also encrypted.

I have tried using a the power supply from my FVP 5000, so that isn’t the problem. Symptoms are no light on front, fan not operating, no noise of drive spinning. The heat sink on the motherboard gets warm. I have a multimeter but not sure where to check for voltage.

Unfortunately, as far as I’m aware, SD recordings on the Fox, 1800/2000T, 4000/5000T are encrypted. SD recordings can be decrypted by copying to a USB device or by using DLNA. HD recordings cannot be decrypted on most Humaxes. Any discussion of decryption outside the above is not allowed on this forum.

Presumably to copy recordings to USB or using DLNA, the Humax box needs to be working?

Correct – see my first reply! Without the original 2000T working there’s no hope of recovery as the files can only be decrypted by that Humax. Putting the disk into another 2000T will not decrypt the files.
