InactiveFor the last 7 yrs or so I have used my Humax FVP-5000T recorder perfectly well. Just recently it has started to power itself off at the start of a recording time. Then 30sec or so later power itself back on (as if switched off and on at the plug).
I attempted a Factory reset and format of the hard drive, but the formatting failed. So just did Factory Reset.
The current situation is that the recording fail immediately at the start but the box does not power off/on any more. The recording is logged in the recording list but with zero minutes, so not one second recorder.
my software is UKTFAE 1.03.54 and the Build Date is 25 May 2022. No more software build updates available.
Can anyone suggest a solution.
Regards Nick.

InactiveThe HD may have failed.
One way to check would be the live TV buffer.
As you know the 5000T allows you to pause and rewind live TV, this is the buffer
which is ‘recorded’ on to the HD.
Watch a TV channel on the box and after a few minutes see if you can rewind the broadcast to an
earlier time and see if it will play.
If it does not then you can probably assume the HD has failed.
Also is there not a facility in the 5000T settings menu somewhere that allows you to check the HD.
If it is the HD you can buy another one note though you need to get an HD designed for video/ surveillance
something like a Seagate Pipeline 1TB or 2TB, available via Amazon.

InactiveHi. Thanks for quick reply.
I have done the HDD TEST. The result was ‘Passed HDD Test. No defects are found’.
Retried Formatting the HDD, but massage said it could not do it due to a recording starting soon. I have no recording scheduled to start at anytime. Yesterday the HDD was 3% used and 97% available. Today it says it is 97% used and 3% available. I do not have one recording saved.
I do not know how to change the HDD. Do you know of a nationwide company that services these recorders?
Also I have never used the Pause and Rewind facility. Can you tell me how I go about trying this please. Which buttons on the remote?

InactiveReplacing the HD is fairly easy.
Take the cover off the box.
Unplug the old HD, insert the new HD.
Replace cover.
Format HD.
Have a look on You Tube for tutorials, like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxivbfxpTA4
it’s not the greatest video.
Getting a company to replace an HDD will be expensive and not worth the investment.
A replacement 1TB drive is approx £35-00.
As it is over 7 years old you may want to think of a new PVR as you never know what is going to go next.
There is the Humax Aura, although it is still temperamental or the newer Manhattan T4-R but it only has 2 tuners.

InactiveHi. I have found this on ebay. Is it the correct one?
‘Seagate Pipeline HD 1TB ST1000VM002 5900RPM SATA 3.5″ PC CCTV DVR HDD Hard Drive’

InactivePosting a link to the item would have been helpful.
But if it is a Seagate Pipeline and says it is for use with CCTV/ Surveillance/ Video then it should be fine.
Make sure that it has a SerialATA II interface/ connection.
Make sure this is an unused, new item.
This is the equivalent on Amazon,

InactiveHi VitaminD. I have fitted the new hard drive. After a bit of difficulty I have reset the factory default and formatted the hard drive. The HDD test was good and the hard drive was set up correctly. Sadly I am still unable to record anything. The last program I tried to record said Could not record due to power failure. The box does not go off like it did before.
Do you have any other suggestions as to what might be wrong? Could there be a problem with the PCB? Are replacements available? If I can’t get this solve I will remove the hard drive and try and return it for a refund!!
I would appreciate your help again.
Nick.

InactiveThat’s a pity replacing the HD has not solved your problem.
Are you certain you followed all instructions in the video.
Is it only recordings it is refusing to do?
Have you tried to see if the live buffer is operating?
Watch a TV channel for at least 2 minutes, then press the Pause button on the remote
The picture should freeze, after a few seconds press the Play button, the programme should continue
a few seconds behind the live broadcast. If that works press the Rewind button pressing once will rewind at x2 press more and the speed increases, If you can do that the HD is operating as the live buffer.
Is the box able to record if you press the Record button on the remote, rather than setting up a timed recording?
So why isn’t it recording, I’m not sure.
it may be worth posting a new question, such as,
Replaced HDD on my 5000T and it still refuses to record.
And maybe ask a question on the Hummy TV site,
https://hummy.tv/forum/forums/fvp-4000t-5000t-freeview-play-hd-recorders.49/
Sorry can’t be more help than this.
Good Luck.

InactiveHi VitaminD. Just a final update.
The old box with the replacement Hard Drive had the same recording problems as when the original Hard Drive was in place. So i have returned the replacement hard drive.
I have found the refurbished 5000T on Amazon which I have purchased. Whist waiting I replaced the original hard drive for a final test and it continued to play up. I’m really thinking the problem is not with the hard drive. Anyway when the refurbished box arrived I installed it and it has worked perfectly for the last couple of days. I will probably keep the old original hard drive – just incase I may need it !!!Thanks for troubling the answer mt call for help and for your advise.
Regards Nick.
